1992ers are also classics

And that is a strange idea. Because many of us have known those engines as new or as recent occasions. But the engines from 1992 are now also classics by law. And what should we do with that?

We simply have to shamelessly use the fact that these machines, in the meantime, are generally dated, and are still priced very friendly and often offered with surprisingly low mileage. And whether they are 22 or 26 years young? Emotionally, that doesn't matter much, but sometimes in terms of euros again. So we just think 'about'. In terms of mileage, those machines are already at such a technical level that you can adopt a normally maintained copy with 50.000 kilometers on the clock with confidence. We have documented stories of a Goldwing, a Moto Guzzi California 2 and a BMW K100 that are happy to do their job with more than three tons on the clock.

The chaff and the corn

Of course, a lot of the 1992 's are and are nothing more than old engines that were not born for blind passion, eternity and enormous value increases. But in 1992 there are motorcycles made that make you greedy, that are still affordable and that will certainly increase in value in the future. We make a round. And to make things a little more classic, we take 1992 'as close as possible' as the calibration date. That is roughly because 23 or 24 year-old engines are often even cheaper and just as much fun.

• BMW: K75s and K100s are already starting to increase in value. The K1 is an absolute must
• Buell: That brand will score with the early models with tube frames.
• Ducati: The Pasos that nobody ever wanted get attention now and the 851s are also becoming more expensive
• Harley's are more than enough
• Honda: A beautiful VFR 750 R is and will always be fun. Gold wings are stayers
• Kawasaki's ZZR 1100 is very interesting
• Laverda's SFC remains priceless. Watch out for replicas!
• Moto Guzzi Le Mans motorbikes keep their enthusiasts, we would not leave a cool SPIII. The four-clappers from that time remain vulnerable
• Suzuki GSX R 750s are already quite legendary, but avoid examples with circuit experience. We would not leave a GSX R 1100 in good condition.
• Yamaha´s RD 350 LCF is one of the last fast two-stroke and the FZR 1000 with its top of 300 km / h is also worth having.

The nice stuff

This leaves a whole bunch of motorcycles that now have a very low commercial value, but which are very nice and dated. Think of the East German MZs, rare toys such as the Aprilia 125 Sintesi, Transalps, Honda Pacific Coasts and NVT 600s, the very high Moto Guzzi Quotas and Suzuki DR 800.

Because these motorcycles were built in the time that production was already tight calculations, it may be that you are less likely to find new parts for an 25 year-old engine than for an 70 year-old Harley or BMW. The prices of those parts are often fairly stiff. Certainly color parts can form a bottleneck and the sticker sets for tubs are screamingly expensive.

On the plus side are the purchase price, the reliability and the usability of these types of machines, a few of which are so dynamic that you can lose your driving license with them in first gear.
