At the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen, the 20 millionth car was taken off the road. The anniversary car was an S 500 Plug-In Hybrid. The event is not the first milestone of the 2015 calendar year. The production location also celebrates the 100 anniversary this year. Sindelfingen has a varied history that began in 1915 with the production of aircraft and aircraft engines and later car bodies.

Within the Mercedes-Benz Cars production network, the factory in Sindelfingen symbolizes numerous impressive passenger cars in the Mercedes-Benz range. Mercedes-Benz also started producing complete cars here in 1946. The current S-Class and its predecessor models have been built at the Sindelfingen plant since the arrival of the Mercedes-Benz 220 in the spring of 1951. The S-Class is the most sold limousine in its segment in the world.

Legendary cars from Sindelfingen
Legendary products have been rolling off the band in Sindelfingen for many years. These include, before 1946, the Mercedes-Benz 170 with the safe swing axle (independent wheel suspension with double cross guide) and the "Big Mercedes", the favorite vehicle of many popes and heads of state. The arrival of the Mercedes-Benz compressor sports car Typ K heralded the era of elegant and comfortable cars. In Sindelfingen, the 260 D was also born, the first series-produced diesel car with a respectable capacity of 45 hp at the time. The first completely produced cars from the factory include the 170 S Cabriolet A that was built between 1949 and 1951. Other legendary cars are the 300 SL 'Gullwing', the 190 SL and the 'Ponton', which was the first Mercedes-Benz to have a self-supporting body. Models such as the W110 / W111 / W112 (small and large Heckflosse), the Strich 8 and the W116- the S Class from 1972- also had their baptism of fire at the factory. The aforementioned Benzen are just a few of the impressive arsenal of seasoned automobiles that left the factory tires in Sindelfingen.

26.000 people are employed at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen. In the past year, 367.313 rolled cars from the Mercedes-Benz C, E and S-Class, as well as the CLS Coupé, CLS Shooting Brake, SLS AMG and Mercedes-AMG GT. More than 250 cars are currently delivered daily at the Mercedes-Benz Kundencenter in Sindelfingen.
