Philip is a true Alfa-lover and not without reason calls himself: Alfist. This honorific title encapsulates a special bond with his connection to Alfa, a common thread through his (car)-Alfa-life. Today we see his beautiful white Alfa Romeo Alfetta 2000 GTV.

Autobiography

It all started 40 years ago with the purchase of a AlfaSud TI, a fantastic car with excellent handling and a powerful boxer engine. After this Sud, its successor came into view: the Alfa Romeo 33 of which he owned three over time, then one Alfa Romeo 155 and a 156, while his daily driver is a Giulietta QV 1700. About Alfa-Speaking of love! Philip: “The bodywork designs are true masterpieces for me; you could compare them to art.”

The rescue operation

Philip: “The Alfa The Romeo Alfetta 2000 GTV was in a sorry state when I found it at a handyman's in 2010. To mask its rust-brown life, the sad Italian had been painted all sorts of colors. The chassis was sound, but the rust demon had sunk its teeth into the bodywork everywhere; it required a lot of welding and sheet metal replacement.

Step-by-step

Philip: “I was facing limitations due to rheumatism. The use of medication led to results step by step. A period of 5 years of restoration of the Alfa The Romeo Alfetta 2000 GTV was completed with the registration and a sense of pride and satisfaction. Thanks to the support and advice from GTV specialist Lemarc in Balk and the information on the forums, many wishes were realized.

Not original?

Philip: “The tired engine from the Alfa We replaced the Romeo Alfetta 2000 GTV with a 2-liter Twin Spark from a Alfa 75, and the rims are from a Alfa 156; that fulfills my personal wishes for modifications. The charming styling remains; everything else is original. For me, it's more than just a car; every summer drive is an experience on wheels, guarantees a bit of nostalgia, and captures the spirit of the 70s and 80s. It's a faithful companion—one that stays outside from April to November—that I never want to part with; there's so much passion and pride in it that I'd love to talk about it with other enthusiasts.

James Bond

Connoisseurs and enthusiasts know the fast pace of the ALFA GTV 6 in Octopussy (1993). Philip enjoys a spirited driving style and the rumbling exhaust note, though he demonstrates more responsibility than James, with the added bonus of driving enjoyment.

  1. The most beautiful version indeed, compliments! I know how much work that rust devil requires. I had the GTV 6 with the famous (with fuel injection) Busso engine in the 80s. That made the car what it should be. It's a shame about those plastic bumpers and even more so about the rust after just a year and a half. But what a car!

  2. The most beautiful version, with stainless steel bumpers. Nice handlebars, but not original. The Ansa exhaust looks absolutely fantastic.

  4. Yes, that's the GTV at its best, steel bumpers and that separate rev counter right in front of you. It's great that this beauty still exists, because these models weren't of the best quality for many manufacturers, and therefore also for many other manufacturers. Alfa Romeo. I remember well that two GTVs suddenly appeared parked on "my" street, around 1978... a few years later, both were gone again.

    • Well done, Philip! You can easily follow the TV@ license plate. I once had a Duetto with a TV in the middle. Was your Sud perhaps silver-gray? I thought it was "FS" in the license plate??? Then...
