For enthusiasts of the classic BMW range and high-quality scale models, the 323:21 scale BMW 1i E18 from Auto Art has become an exclusive collector's item. This model still pays tribute to the original from the late XNUMXs and early XNUMXs – an era when BMW further cemented its reputation as a manufacturer of sporty cars in this class.

The BMW E21 was the first 3 Series ever. It served as the blueprint for a long line of sporty cars that remain beloved to this day. The 323i, the top model of the regular E21 range, joined the lineup in January 1978. It featured the M20B23 inline six-cylinder engine with an output of 143 hp. The car quickly became a favorite among enthusiasts, not least because of its combination of relatively compact lines and a powertrain that was rare for this class at the time.

Auto Art is known for its precision and craftsmanship, and produced, among other models, this 323:21 scale BMW 1i E18. From the proportions to the finish, much of this model is also contemporary. The metallic paint (often available in colors like Polaris Silver or Bahama Gold) has a beautiful sheen and depth, which immediately gives the model a high-quality appearance.

Impressive exterior details include the accurately reproduced alloy wheels, which are wrapped in realistically treaded tires. The scale model also features working suspension and finely applied chrome accents around the windows and bumpers. Beautiful, and not to be forgotten: the correct twin tailpipes at the rear, matching the 323i E21. Furthermore, this superbly proportioned model is strikingly detailed with authentic model designations and BMW logos. Such details reflect the quest for precision that earned Auto Art its reputation. The depiction of the windshield wipers is a point of criticism; their placement relative to each other is not entirely accurate. Moreover, the wipers appear too large.

Furthermore, you'll see an interior that will be recognizable to connoisseurs. Even there, there are a few points that could have been better addressed. The dashboard isn't the most perfect part of the scale model, and the instrument panel could have been better detailed. However, the sporty steering wheel is realistic. The interior trim is covered in a fabric-like material. This makes the interior's finish a wonderful plus. Returning to the exterior, under the smoothly hinged and open hood, you'll see a very nicely modeled version of the M20B23 inline six-cylinder engine. The trunk holds a spare tire, and even the interior trim is present—a detail rarely, if ever, seen with other manufacturers.

The BMW 323i E21 from Auto Art wasn't your average model back then, and it still isn't. For collectors of classic BMWs, German modern classics, or simply superbly crafted scale models, this model is an absolute must-have. Moreover, it's becoming increasingly rare on the market and has long since reached collectors' circles. As a result, prices now range from €200 for a used model to higher prices for a new one or one in excellent condition.

This 1:18 scale model from Auto Art is much more than a collector's item. It's a miniature tribute to design, technology, and nostalgia. With this model, Auto Art beautifully brought a piece of Bavarian automotive history to life. Whether you're a BMW enthusiast or a collector with an eye for detail, this model deserves a prominent place in your display case.
