Purchasing classics there

Buy at auctions during a classic auction. And these are very often Internet auctions nowadays. That is a big step forward for the buyers. And involves risks. Certainly for individuals who do not know the impact of the various whips.

Feeding frenzy

Feeding frenzy. That is the madness that a couple of sharks like when there is something to eat somewhere. The usually thoughtful animals then go completely crazy and they are almost even able to eat themselves. Such a similar phenomenon can also occur in the heat of battle while bidding at auctions. The blind greed of those present can then push the price of an object, whatever it is, far above the real value. Even professional buyers are often not immune to this. So for us, as good fans, it is important to have an 'emergency brake' at hand.

Therefore, determine in advance the maximum price that you want to pay and grab your loss if that amount is exceeded. Or see that moment as your profit. What also works well is to take a good friend with you who will not get angry when he gives you a strong punch when he sees you getting ready to offer your maximum price.

You can also get that stump indirectly. For many traders, physical auctions are the backyard in which they prefer not to see private individuals. At auctions, therefore, traders often work in a sort of tacit cooperation according to rumors. They offer low. If an outsider comes, they will outdo it, but only to eliminate him and protect their living. They then divide the 'loss' among themselves. With online auctions, that chance is less natural. But with online auctions you have to keep in mind that there are plenty of software packages that keep an eye on the bidding the last five minutes before closing in order to be successful. Because: "Nobody beats the machine".

The descriptive conditions of an offered motorcycle or car must contain as much information as possible. But let it run or take a test drive before the sale? Those are not options. With serious setbacks, unprecedented misery and things like that, serious auction houses do have a canceling right.

Also keep in mind that at that maximum price an auction requires a 'premium' to the purchasing party.

Purchase from the Government
And then of course there are the Domains. There, not only retired police cars, army trucks and field kitchens are auctioned, but also the (classic) cars, motorbikes and boats that were taken away by the justice and the tax of naughty people. So do not only look at Catawiki, BCA auctions but on the websites of bailiffs and domains.
The Domains explicitly state that they are sold without a guarantee.

Or just go for a round of classic specialists if you want to have the best possible classic for a reasonable amount, where you can first take a test drive. Where you are always welcome for a cup of coffee and the exchange of your classic for a new classic. Spring is coming again!

The extra charges

Premium / Auction costs: Generally 15-20% of the bid (or as much or less as the auctioneer makes known before the auction) as a premium for the auctioneer (plus the VAT due on this amount)
