Purchasing classics there

The time when stocks and bonds were considered exclusive money makers seems to be behind us for a while. Nowadays, an investment can also be a useful utensil. Designer handbags, wines, watches and coins are doing well in exclusive circles these days. And of course, our beloved classics are still in the picture as an investment object. Ford recently published an analysis in which it compared its classics to market trends. The Ford heritage is well positioned in the market, the report showed.

The total value growth in the classic market was 457 percent in the past decade. This is a larger increase than for real estate, the value of which in Europe has increased by an average of 20 percent over the last decade and by 152 percent since 2000. Ford calculated that it belongs to the brands with the lowest entry costs in the list of most expensive car brands.

Realize childhood dream

An explanation for the large increase in the value of classic cars is the fact that the profit from sales by an individual does not have to be taxed in European countries. For many collectors, however, it is about realizing a childhood dream by buying a car they have always wanted.

The deepest pouch for a GT40

The wealthy Ford enthusiasts are willing to go the deepest for the GT40. In 2012, a GT40 from 1968 was auctioned for almost ten million euros. And in the past three years, three other GT40 units have also generated millions. Ford also presented more figures with regard to the value development of its historic models. The RS200, the group B rally car from the 1980s, has an average price of € 174.000, where the new price in 1984 was € 59.000. Also popular: the Escort Mk1 Mexico, which nowadays averages € 36.000, - doing.

Some accessible Fords

Various Ford classics are still affordable for a wider audience, and are interesting as a hobby car. We mention a few middle class in that regard. The 12M P4 / P6 and the Cortina Mark 2 are still available for reasonable amounts. They are becoming rarer in road traffic, and that can in time affect the value of these historic Ford mid-sized vehicles, as well as the prices for parts. Speaking of a leap in time: the XR3i of the third generation Escort is still accessible. The average price of this potent Escort is currently € 5.540. Not only because of that price tag do we have the idea that this hot hatch - together with its historic competitors - is an excellent investment. An XR3i can also offer a lot of driving pleasure. And that is what the true enthusiast is still about.
