Closing date July issue -> May 19
The Mustang Garage in Heusden-Zolder becomes a Ford Mustang museum, with 12.000 miniatures.
A garage can be filled with Mustangs, but that doesn't make it a museum. Only when the workshop and showroom are set up to tell a collection does the place change function. In Heusden-Zolder, this is happening now at The Mustang Garage: owner Adelbert Engler is opening a Ford Mustang museum there starting April 17.
Engler was active for 26 years in buying, selling, maintaining, and restoring Ford Mustangs and is now eligible for retirement. Instead of closing the door for good, he is opening up part of what he built up during those years to the public. Visits are possible by appointment, in small groups, with a guided tour and a focus on the history of the Ford Mustang.
The date of April 17 was deliberately chosen because that day is cited as the birth day of the Mustang in 1964. There will also be a reception on April 17, where further plans will be announced. The opening of the museum will be performed by Mayor Mario Borremans of Heusden-Zolder and Ford Belgium.
The heart of the museum is Engler's collection of Ford Mustang miniatures: more than 12.000 pieces, built since he was eight years old. In addition, there are also about twenty full-size (1/1 scale) Ford Mustangs in the collection.
Immediately following the museum's opening, the annual Mustang Fever Event will take place, which The Mustang Garage is organizing for the 24th time this year. That event takes place on April 18 and 19 and attracts hundreds of Ford Mustangs from across Europe. Admission is free for both visitors and participants with a Ford Mustang. A special detail: the event takes place in the residential neighborhood where the garage is located.
Looking ahead, the garage operations are moving to a different location in collaboration with Hammink Performance, a Dutch company with 20 years of experience in American cars. The operations will remain in Limburg and be expanded to include all American brands under the name The Musclecar Garage.
