Purchasing classics there

Owners of vintage cars that run on LPG have the gas installation expanded in large numbers. This is the result of the approval of the tightened MRB scheme for old-timers, which was finally seized in the Upper House last week. The RDW inspection stations now have to deal with waiting lists for the conversion inspection.

160 cars per day
Aftersales magazine reports that currently 160 cars are being converted from LPG to petrol every day. Normally there are at most three. The expectation is that many more owners of a gas-fired old-timer - which falls under the new tax rules - will take this measure. The goal is of course to be eligible for a lower MRB rate. An old-timer converted to a petrol vehicle - which passes the conversion inspection at the RDW - is also eligible for the transitional arrangement.

Transitional arrangement
The transitional arrangement will take effect on January 1. To be able to make use of this scheme in 2014, the vehicle holder therefore receives a letter at the beginning of 2014 and is given time to make a choice until 2014 March 1. Vehicles that fall under the transitional arrangement are eligible for a quarterly rate. The quarterly rate applies to an entire calendar year with a maximum of € 120. As an exception, the owner - only in 2014 - can use the public road in January and February.

31% wants to expand according to research
Team Vrijstellingoldtimer showed last year through a large-scale investigation that a considerable part of the owners of an oldtimer on LPG was planning to expand the installation .: 31%. It was one of the conclusions that was not included in the final decision and in the calculations after the publication of the full study by Wouter van Embden et al.

Initial behavioral effects are visible
The first behavioral consequences of the carelessly tightened exemption measure are already visible within a week after the nocturnal hammer blow by the Senate. And if 31% of the LPG drivers covered by the measure actually add the word, then the estimates can already be corrected by € 18 million. The waiting lists that have already been created at the inspection stations of the RDW already point carefully in that direction.

  1. But the key question is: Will the cars in question continue to drive as many kilometers as they did on LPG? If not, Weekers simply uses the environmental argument instead of the financial argument.
