This year the Citroën SM 55 years. Earlier this week, you read the announcement of a truly magnificent event at the Louwman Museum. Starting this coming May 14th, eight beautiful and exotic SM creations will be ready to be admired there. The exhibition is the fine result of the collaboration between the Citroën SM Club Netherlands and the museum in Wassenaar. Not every SM enthusiast will own a 'real' one. Fortunately, there are manufacturers who have strikingly scaled down this special creation for collections. NOREV, for example, released a 1:12 scale version.

NOREV is known for making scale models that really strike the right chord. And in honor of the 55th anniversary of the SM, we are pleased to highlight the twelve-times scaled-down version for you. Let's get straight to the point: the miniature car manufacturer has created something very special here, and the result is impressive. In short: the proportions of this miniature are almost completely accurate. The same applies to the added trim parts, which truly appear to be scaled down twelve times in terms of proportions.

You will also find more specific details. The light units (with three headlights per side), the profiles on the front dome, the wheels, and chrome details, including the model designation (on the C-pillar), closely resemble the original. It is also beautiful. Citroën small grille on the right side of the hood, above the windshield. The rear is also spot on. The light units are well positioned and the shape of the rear, including the glazing of the luggage compartment (yes, with rear window heating) is certainly impressive. Also the Citroën The badge and the large points extending from the bumper are fine signs of authenticity. The proportions and details of the exterior are strikingly rendered across the board.

The interior is at least as beautiful. The profiling of the seats, the upholstery color, the center console with the finely tuned gear lever section: these are all fine signs of a meticulous method used to create the scale model of the Citroën SM is well represented. Also note the way the headrests are made; that too approaches reality quite realistically. It is worth mentioning that none of the doors can be opened, and the same applies to the trunk lid and the hood.

The purist, of course, prefers to get the miniature executed in white from the one in twelve SM in-house, because the car made its public debut in this color at the Geneva Motor Show. Through specialty stores and online channels, the eight hundred units produced in white and twelve times smaller is Citroën SM available. You will have to shell out a considerable sum for it; NOREV itself already set a recommended retail price of around €150 at the time. The enthusiast gets a beautiful scale model for that price.

  1. NOREV usually handles this well, although I find some models just a little too sterile. I am curious to see how the interior is done, though.

  2. The SM remains a car in a league of its own, also as a model. That nose and that rear end either work or they don't; you can see it all immediately.
