Purchasing classics there

The historic models of Mercedes Benz, VW and Ford are the most popular import classics of the past year. BOVAG has published this on the basis of figures that the organization has compiled together with Automotive data organization RDC. Both organizations also concluded that the import of passenger cars older than thirty years in the past year increased compared to 2017.

Mercedes-Benz was the best in terms of numbers as an imported car brand within the category older than thirty years. VW took second place and Ford took third place, also because of the popularity of the Mustang. Furthermore, the Porsches are brought to our country with love, witnessed fourth place in the import top 5. Chevrolet completes the top quintet with classics imported to the Netherlands last year.

British classics in demand

The Netherlands also gained a number of English classics. Jaguar (125 units), LandRover (96 units) and MG (94 units) were import-wise in the top 15 of imported cars with an age of 30 plus. Traditionally, the TriumphIt's excellent in the Netherlands, but from an import technical point of view, they fell outside the top 15. The classic Mini, nevertheless an icon, is not included.

exotics

The exotics did well. In the past year, for example, 33 Rolls Royce copies, 16 Bentleys and 8 Aston Martins were brought to the Netherlands. Speaking of exclusivity: the Italians also did well in that respect, because 32 Ferraris and 19 Maseratis came to the Netherlands. The more affordable Italian classics from Alfa Romeo took tenth place in the import figures.

Reclaimed DAFs, Volvo imports lag behind

The number of imported Volvo cars lagged somewhat behind the high position it occupies within the total Dutch classic population. In 2018 the CBS calculated that Volvo was in fourth place in the Netherlands, in the top 15 the Swedes are in ninth place. A nice detail in the import figures is that the Netherlands retrieved 38 DAFs from abroad.

Beetle overall favorite

Overall, the Volkswagen Beetle, the Citroën 2 CV and the Volkswagen Golf favorite, and Mercedes-Benz is in the top 15 of the most common thirty plus cars no less than four times. The E-Class predecessors, the S-Class, the SL and the W201 are doing very well in the Netherlands. This also applies to the evergreens Fiat 500, the MG MGB and the Triumph Spitfire. The BMW 3 series is also rising in classics. The E23 and E30 are responsible for a top 10 listing. The Japanese classic does not appear in the higher regions of the statistics either import-technical or overall, but that seems demographically a matter of time.

  1. dear,

these figures have been manipulated by vw and associates. As for years, this group carries out the best marketing, including sales.
When do you see a beetle ride? We live in a well-to-do environment, but none (restored), beetles.
    Best regards,
    Jeroen

  2. Beautiful, it only gets nicer from the road. My Corsa A becomes 28 this year and is currently with a restorer to tackle some (small) rust things and then a Dinitrol treatment. In this way I hope to have this simple trolley with me for a long time.
