The proven quality and value retention of Mercedes-Benz are undeniable. It is no wonder that Wijtze chose this class car after his retirement because of its good condition, safety and reliability. With 40 years on the clock, this car is now a classic car, and this model has more than proven its proverbial longevity.
The previous owner, who cherished the car as a hobby car for more than 10 years, called it his comfortable “piggy bank”, and that says it all.
The importer AGAM wrote at the time:
“The Mercedes-Benz 200 is a compact, handy automobile with an economical 4-cylinder in-line engine. This thoroughly proven engine is not a high-speed sprinter for short distances; the strength lies rather in the elasticity and great tensile strength. Especially when accelerating from low revs, this 2-liter engine shows a power characteristic similar to injection engines. The Mercedes-Benz 200 is a versatile automobile, suitable for controlled, calm driving, but also for temperamental driving.”
Huge boost
The Internet has given an enormous impetus to the development of contacts between enthusiasts, also in the field of buying and selling. Wijtze, who previously drove a car with the three-pointed star on the nose, decided to look for a perfect example again. He found this utility vehicle in excellent condition, requiring only a technical service.
With his Mercedes-Benz 200, Wijtze shows that there is sufficient knowledge, expertise and commitment to put the care for our driving heritage into practice. 40 years old and in excellent condition, this type of Mercedes-Benz remains a car that exudes class, far from old-fashioned.
I have a W115 myself that I have been working on for several years with plenty of time between poses (due to illness) and other paid welding jobs, but every time I start it it runs like a sewing machine, I hope to get it ready one day from 74 but when it is ready the first trip is to the inspection for an inspection
Beautiful and solid cars, type W-123. I have enjoyed my 11 280-E for over 1976 years, with 139.000 miles on it when I bought it. Very nice, anthracite with Pullmann interior. Wood on the dashboard, steering wheel, lever and center tunnel. I rode it once for more than 1 km and my wife next to me noticed nothing. Every MOT passed with distinction!
The type plate does not appear to be completely in place (presumably installed later), but not completely correctly in place.
The chrome under the taillights only belongs on the coupes and the 280.
As far as the license plate is concerned, it should indeed just have yellow plates on it.
Blue plates with YA and then YB etc. in the middle are only released for cars with the issue date of first admission from January 1973 to 1978, and not for a later date of first admission.
It's a pity that Mercedes installed a single timing chain on the first M102 engines because of the red pencil.
Due to the premature death of these engines, the duplex chain was returned to this engine in 1987.
A nice car of course.
Nice car, but driving around with a car from 1984 with a license plate that is permitted for cars built no later than December 31, 1977, you have to be careful not to encounter alert police on the road.
