The new edition of Auto Motor Klassiek is available at your familiar sales channels. And you can't miss it, because the cover features, among other things, the 1972 Opel Manta 1.6 S owned by Peter de Roy from Franeker. The reportage took place in the autumn of 2025, and the story, as mentioned, is featured in the brand-new AMK issue, along with a selection of other stories and regular features.

The star of the Opel Manta report is a car delivered new in the Netherlands, which had been stored dry for over three decades. De Roy eventually tracked down the car, negotiated with the owner's family, and acquired the Manta. The car is in excellent condition, and the current owner—a professional garage owner—naturally knew the potential consequences of a prolonged hiatus. The Opel was brought back into a fresh, mechanically sound condition and has since become a permanent fixture in the classic car collection.

In this story, we present you with driving impressions of the classic Opel, and of course, the Manta's purchase history. We also provide an overview of the work Peter carried out on his car to bring it back to its former glory. Not only is the Opel Manta 1.6 S described, but also the design history and development of the car. family coupe are discussed. And this one—in case you're not familiar with it—is more surprising than you might think. We also describe the model's history, and you'll find the technical specifications of the reportage car. We'll also highlight some interesting variations on the "Manta-A" theme.

The story about Opel's "family coupe classic" isn't the only thing you'll find, that goes without saying. You'll also read reports and articles about the Ford Vedette, a special Alfa Romeo 155, the Talbot Solara, MG, the Chevrolet Bel Air, and the Jaguar Mk I. You'll also find excellent motorcycle articles on the Honda CB72 and CB77, and the Moto Guzzi 250 TS. And there are the familiar regular features. The short reports, the classic car post and the classic car articles, contributions from our advertisers, and the regular columns can, of course, also be found in AMK 2-2026. As you can see, this issue offers you every reason to visit the newsstand or specialty store again, or more specifically: to subscribe if you're not yet a regular AMK reader. Because this issue is once again filled with passion for classic cars. And created with it.

  1. They were great cars, and that's why I owned one myself. This 1972 Opel Manta was a 1.6 in ochre yellow with a black leatherette roof. It was an easy car to work on. I still regret ever selling it. If you own one, you have to take good care of it.
At the moment I still drive a classic car, namely a Volvo 142 from 1970 and a Volkswagen T3 from 1981 and both run on LPG.

  2. Opel Manta, my first real car, also an orange one, could do 160 and that's what I did so the engine was blown up, everything fit in a 16n or s, a 17n or s, from one cylinder head to the other, even replaced the clutch myself at a DIY garage, good cars, well when you're 19, things do break
