Purchasing classics there

For the good cause

By: Kevin Houtzager & Nancy Verheul

On Saturday, April 5, 2014, the Frank De Jong Memorial Classic & Open Rally was held in Ridderkerk and the surrounding area. Nearly 60 teams appeared at the start to tour the region.

Early in the morning people gathered in a parking lot where the first pictures were taken. The moving photos are from the first part of the Rally, even before the route book was distributed. However, the teams did have instructions that consisted of a brief description and a number of photos. Because the start was at 09: 00 in the morning in front of the town hall, clearly not everyone was awake yet. A number of participants did not follow the correct route and came riding from the other side, or skipped the piece where we were positioned entirely. For the people who were awake enough and for all of you, however, that produced nice pictures at the old inner core around the Singelkerk of Ridderkerk.

The rally raised money for Stiching Bram Ridderkerk. This Foundation is committed to children with multiple disabilities from the age of 3 to 6 years. By registering and by the local business community, € 9.250, - was collected together. However, this amount was doubled to € 18.500 by the Dutch Foundation for the Handicapped Child.
