Roland D'Ieteren (1942), chairman of D'Ieteren until 2017 and representative of the sixth generation at the head of the family business, has passed away. He was 78 years old.

In 2017, Roland D'Ieteren handed over the chairmanship of the board of directors of the (partially) listed company D'Ieteren to his only son Nicolas, who is still chairman today. Until then, he was the head of the importer of Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Porsche, Bentley, Bugatti and Lamborghini. The D'Ieteren group also owns the parent company of Carglass, Belron, and the Italian leather goods brand Moleskine. In the past it also had the car rental company Avis Europe in its portfolio, but this was sold.

Car enthusiast in heart and soul

Roland D'Ieteren worked for the family business from 1972 after having worked for Volkswagen in Brazil for several years. Known for his passion for automobiles, he was instrumental in founding the Autoworld automobile museum. In addition, he had his own unique collection of cars in the D'Ieteren Gallery. A childhood friend of Volkswagen's patriarch Ferdinand Piëch, who died last year, D'Ieteren already exerted his influence, fifteen years ago, to preserve the Volkswagen factory in Forest, now Audi Brussels.

Roland D'Ieteren also regularly participated in classic car activities at home and abroad. He was present every year at the Concours d'Elegance of Villa d'Este in Italy. He also participated in rallies such as the ING Ardenne roads or recently the Zoute Grand Prix.

Roland D'Ieteren, baron since 2009, was a car fan through and through. The patriarch could talk to employees about the latest models. D'Ieteren was a regular at international motor shows such as Geneva, where he clearly enjoyed and walked almost incognito between the models. The collector was also present at classic car events. In recent years, the patriarch has been involved with Touring Superleggera, the Italian sports car builder that D'Ieteren bought as a personal toy in 2006.

  2. No, it is not,
There is just a car heaven. There is gasoline with lead. You are chased by Wouten. But never caught. I call that the eternal key fields.

  3. Hope and pray that there is a heavenly four-wheeler waiting for him in heaven. However, I understand that only four-legged (horses) are available there. But also that the wishes of your heart are fulfilled there. That in turn gives hope 😜
