Aircraft undercarriage between the DAFs

Among the familiar cars, trucks and buses in the DAF Museum, there is now something remarkable: the landing gear of an F-16 fighter jet. And no, that is not a mistake. In the seventies and eighties, DAF built hundreds of these types of undercarriages through the department Special products.
The reason? A large American order for almost 500 landing gears. DAF seized the opportunity and even set up a special factory to build them in 1976. That factory later also supplied parts for Airbus aircraft and NATO helicopters. From trucks to aircraft – DAF could do it all.
The example that is now in the museum, first served at fairs and was then made operational by the Royal Netherlands Army for an air force school in Leeuwarden. In the meantime, it has found a nice place among the DAF classics in Eindhoven.
“A special addition to our collection,” says curator Geert van Rooij. “And a nod to DAF's surprising contribution to aviation.”
The DAF Museum at Tongelresestraat 27 is open every day from 10.00:17.00 to XNUMX:XNUMX, except on Mondays. More information at www.dafmuseum.nl.
