Alfa Romeo Alfetta 'Raid Capo Nord Capo Sud'. A 1:18 scale tribute is on the way.
In 1973, a team of Italian journalists from Oggi undertook a daring journey: from the far north of Europe (Capo Nord, Norway) all the way to the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa – the "Capo Sud." In total, they covered more than 26.000 kilometers in a Alfa Romeo Alfetta 1.8.
The Alfetta was modified for the journey. The technicians installed a robust roof rack (with spare tires, jerry cans, and camping gear), an additional air filter, auxiliary headlights, and additional protection for more vulnerable components. The chassis also received extra protection against the vagaries of the rough terrain and the effects of sand, dust, and other elements. During the journey, the team encountered extreme conditions, including a completely different range of weather and driving conditions. For almost a month, they averaged around 900 km per day. The car performed surprisingly well, and fuel consumption was reportedly around 6,1 liters per 100 km.
Laudoracing Models has already released several civilian versions of the Alfetta in 1:18 scale, and this special rally version has also been brought back to life as a 1:18 scale model car. There is also a 1:43 diecast version of the rally-raid variant. We will limit ourselves to the largest version of both releases. This eighteen-times scaled-down version has a resin body. It also stands out for its excellent detailing. Just look at the detailed front, with a large protective hood and auxiliary headlights. The roof rack with spare tires, jerry cans, and camping gear is also an eye-catcher and brings the historical experience closer. With an eye for detail, because the corners of this roof rack are open, just like in 1973.
Other beautiful details include the applied tools and the interior finish. The historically accurate Blu Le Mans livery and the use of decals like the Oggi logo further enhance the model's credibility. The reversed positioning of the decals (left and right) was also considered. Nothing was overlooked. It will definitely be exclusive. The model, available at the end of October, will be released by Laudoracing in a limited edition of 499 units. And it is reportedly still being refined. The photos are very promising, but they still show the model in its prototype stage.
This model is more than just a replica: it's a beautiful tribute to an adventure undertaken with great perseverance and technological testing. The 'Capo Nord Capo Sud Alfetta' remained surprisingly close to the standard version, with necessary modifications. This combination makes the scale model very interesting for both car enthusiasts and model enthusiasts 52 years later.
The Alfetta Raid Capo Nord-Capo Sud is not just any car or scale model. This miniature edition is an absolute trophy for those who love classic Alfa Romeo models, rallies, travel, history, and design. The preliminary suggested retail price is around €150. Orders are now open, in the pre-order phase. For more information, visit the Laudoracing websiteOr better yet, don't do it at all, because there's no turning back. Unless you can truly control yourself.
