Antifreeze for vintage cars

ER Classics Desktop 2022

You probably don't want to think about it on a beautiful sunny day like today. Yet it might be useful to know that given the winter conditions of the last two years, with extreme freezing cold, Which antifreeze no antifreeze is more.

For 2010, the manufacturers of this material did not excel in terms of their mention on the packaging of what exactly was in it to prevent freezing. The du (u) r (de) re antifreeze was usually orange in color and was recommended by every supplier. Unfortunately, however, that stuff is so aggressive that it affects the soldering of the cooling block (radiator and heater radiator!) And even completely dissolves. The same applies to connecting pieces, cylinder head gaskets. Suitable for modern cars because everything is stuck there. That's why when filling one oldtimer of youngtimer look at what exactly is on the label. On the orange antifreeze stands among other things OAT, Organic Acid Technology. Do not use! Also avoid the antifreeze with the following indication: HOAT, Hybrid Organic Acid Technology. Do not use either NOAT, Nitrate Organic Acid Technology, because that's an ordinary one OAT with additions to Nitrate. Then what? It will be a search, but it is still available (for example with something as simple as Halfords): IAT, Inorganic Additive Technology. This is namely antifreeze based on glycol ethylene. Easily recognizable by the blue color! Disadvantage of this, it only has a shelf life of two years! However, if you want the (complete) environmental tour, then you use a product based on propylene glycol. Go look for that ...
