Purchasing classics there

Graduation assignments belong to all kinds of fields of study. One such graduation assignment was apparently about the lives of freelance automotive journalists. The questioner himself had ambitions in that direction. He had a particularly positive image of the income you could derive from such an activity. But he was also curious how you now get contacts and how your stories come.

Invest in time

After about forty years of investing, arranging, messing around in the automotive / classic world, you have those contacts together. And how do you get stories? That also goes without saying. Because if you work out of passion, you are open 24 hours a day to information and opportunities. In addition, you 'know' the market and you can estimate its potential. So we were there Auto Motor Klassiek the first to write about 'silly things' like the Citroën BX, Urals and Dneprs. And in the meantime, beautiful BXs are being brought from France, there are already a few BX specialists and the time when you had a BX for € 500 is over. Despite the fact that they are still very affordable cars. And those Russian tricycles? A few people are already serious about this and the almost first, but certainly the largest of them sold almost 100 last year.

What is fun? What do you encounter?

On the other hand, the stories are where you want to see them. For example, a bright blue Ami 8 was seen locally here a few times. The first approach was to visit fellow villager Peter. Because he had already made noises about the purchase of an Ami. We remembered that it should not be a 'break'. But crazier things have happened.

In mild paranoia you will then take different routes while shopping. And then you see the Ami. A business card plus sticker stuck behind the window and wait and see. Nice things by the way, those Ami's.

De Citroën To me

De Citroën To me line was launched in 1961 and remained in production until 1979. The Ami 6 was an attempt to narrow the gap between the 2CV and the DS. But for cost reasons, the Ami stayed very close to the Ugly Duck. The basic version had the characteristic 'wrongly sloping' rear window as the Ford Anglia had. The Ami received its appreciation as 'Super Duck'. But the market asked for a station wagon version. When that version came on the market in 1964, it turned out that the market had not only been nagging. More than 550.000 breaks were sold.

The successor, the Ami 8, was thoroughly redesigned. Apart from minor detail changes, the Ami 8 sedan remained unchanged in production from 1969 to 1978. Although this of the Ami 8 break was continued until 1979.

bubbling under

In practice, the Ami is now 'bubbling under'. He has his lovers. But has not yet been 'discovered'. This means that there is knowledge and that there are plenty of things. That Ami's are also pleasantly affordable in sunny, rust-free countries and that it can therefore be considered to arrange a transport for between 500-1.000 euros.

If we have contact with our Ami owner, we will report back. And the question of the student whether as an automotive journalist / classic enthusiast there would still be a living to be made in the future? Well… bread maybe. But it can be a funny side income if your partner has a solid income. The automotive world is about to change ...

  1. That's what the Ami Vereniging Nederland is for. This club has been around for forty years. Enthusiastic club that owns two warehouses full of parts. An insane amount of knowledge with, if possible, for a prix d'Ami ...
    No DS or now 2CV prices. Fun first!
