For lovers of the national industrial heritage it is very worthwhile. The Aviodrome in Lelystad is an ode to the national aviation history. The mecca for aviation fans moved from Schiphol to Lelystad in 2003 is home to many, many beautiful things. And to the extent that the aviofan one day is not enough to absorb that impressive structural and technical history of aviation.

Go after it. We call the Wright Flyer, the Fokker Spin, the Fokker C-5D, the Fokker F.VII, the Lockheed Constellation, the Uiver, the Douglas DC 3, the Jumbo Jet, the Douglas C 54 A Skymaster. They form a small selection of what the visitor in Lelystad gets to see. Those responsible realized both an indoor and an outdoor exhibition with various themes. They also built the T2 Hangar and showed the historic contours of Schiphol. In Lelystad, the old main building of the national airport was exactly reconstructed. Anyone who has entered these buildings feels the intimacy of the run-up to air travel from earlier times. The aforementioned is just a sample of the diversity that Aviodrome presents to visitors in the aviation field.

Aviation history and… ..old timers

In addition, it is not only the aviation heritage that sets the clock in Lelystad. Because the enchanting aircraft of yesteryear are assisted by even more beautiful things: delightful classics, which, by way of timeline, let the evolution of road traffic go hand in hand with the technical developments within aviation. Therefore, there is also much to enjoy for old-timer enthusiasts. Because the indoor exhibition starts with a replica of the very first car: the Benz Motorwagen. A little further on, under the wings of the Fokker Spin, a Chapuis Dornier shows off. And so the historic aviation timeline is livened up by even more vintage cars.

A selection of the old-timers present

To name a few: an enchanting Hanomag, a 1921 Delage DO, two A-Fords and the Peugeot 202 UH from transporter Koninklijke Saan add historical value. In addition, the Spyker C2 Truck from 1921 is not to be missed. Furthermore, the prototype of the DAF 600 from 1958 rests under the safe wings of the aviation heritage, in the vicinity of, among other things, a Mercedes Benz 220 Cabriolet and a Buick Riviera. The aforementioned oldtimers are a selection from a larger whole, which has a history in the Autotron.

Presence Autotron classics no coincidence

It is not entirely coincidental that the collection can be seen in the Aviodrome. Dirk Lips - the son of Autotron founder Max Lips - owns various amusement parks with his company Libema. Also managing events centers and theme parks are part of those activities. The Aviodrome is one of the theme parks. In 2012, the aviation park in Lelystad was taken over by Libema. Dirk Lips did not hesitate to let the development of the car go hand in hand with the development of the aviation heritage shown.

Withheld collection

Because Lips housed a number of vintage cars in Lelystad. It is a collection that was part of the Autotron collection of father Max Lips. Son dear succeeded in getting thirty cars from the collection of father Max into ownership. It happened in the run-up to the moment when the entire Autotron collection was sold to the National Automobile Museum, nowadays known as the Louwman Museum.

Aviodrome: stopping place for heritage

The presence of the collection of vintage cars gives the traditionally attractive Aviodrome an added value. It is also impressive to see how technological developments over the years have had repercussions on aviation and the automotive industry. It is therefore - and for many more reasons - very worthwhile to travel to this stopping place full of heritage. For fans of aviation, for fans of classics. And actually for everyone who has the historic heart in the right place.
