Purchasing classics there

. The slogan "Freude am fahren" is an integral part of this beautifully elegant and dynamic coupé. The BMW 633 CSI Coupé from 1979, now over 40, started its car life in Switzerland. After which he left his tire marks in Germany and then came to our country in 2007.

By: Dirk de Jong

The Dutch owner was an engineer from Philips who chose him for the high level of comfort and also his business-elegant appearance. (And a little status maybe?) After many years of loyal service, technical problems arose and the car no longer responded well to 2nd and 4th gears. The engineer's fear was a broken gearbox. And possibly high repair costs. The familiar BMW feeling disappeared and the car was offered on the internet. The contact was made by Jan and the car could be viewed in Delfzijl. Jan is a skilled technician and after a long test drive he decided to take the gamble and purchase the car. That was in 2018.

Found the dream car

After a rough ride, only fourth gear was usable, the car was immediately inspected. It turned out that some bolts had come loose at the gear lever causing the problem. That was a cheerful conclusion. Nevertheless, Jan decided to remove the four-speed gearbox. He replaced it with a five-speed gearbox. It was also originally from a 6 series BMW and had it in the attic as a donor car.

The own story

Jan: “Status doesn't play any role for me. For me it is a car with an extraordinary character that I have been looking for for years. The German car manufacturer gave it exceptionally elegant lines. I find the combination of the red leather upholstery in combination with the black paint 'masterful'. I think it is a good investment in a BMW that does not quickly decrease in value, although it is still about the “Freude am fahren”. The two-door coupé has a spacious seating position and the great pleasure is of course also in the power of the six-cylinder engine that delivers around 198 HP. What is special is that this BMW is one of the last cars that was produced at Karmann in Osnabrück. I still have an original brochure and price list that indicated that the cars had to cost 149.000 guilders. It is clear that we are talking about the higher price segment. ”

Precious metal ...

This beautifully elegant coupé with its striking roofline and large window area is a very attractive car, dynamic elegance in precious metal. Jan is proud of his property and enjoys all the reactions and conversations he gets when he is on the road with his sporty car. He will love your comments below.

  1. This is rightfully one of the most beautiful cars produced by BMW. As a 19 year old boy, I drove a desirable 2002 at the time, followed by a 320, 323i and a 528i. Then more than 30 years Volkswagen driven, but recently a wonderful BMW six-cylinder inline engine, a 340i. I don't drive that many kilometers anymore, but when I drive I enjoy it. An electric car will never come to me.

  2. What a beautiful car. You will enjoy it a lot, and it will definitely be worth more. I myself once had a 3.0SI and 733i. But the two-door variants were nicer, but not reachable for me at the time. Both cars put 3 tons on the clock, without major defects. Beautifully running 6 cylinders engine, so beautiful that I recently bought an older 325 six-seater again. Radio off and enjoy!

  3. On my 18th. I bought a dark blue 633 csi a new one of the first with the steering wheel on the right side, once imported to England, manual 4 speed, bought at BMW on Park Lane, (Central London) everyone was working on Ford Escorts at the time, the BM was out in a different world, what I remembered is that everything broke, camshafts, gearbox and electronics, many solved under warranty, exchanged it for an Escort 2000 RS for a year, the BM was a great car but most untrustworthy ever in my possession.

  4. Remains beautiful about E24, secretly I would like to park one in the garage and I don't really care what year or what M30 block it contains…. if I can convince my spouse, she started her automotive career in an E21 320i and E30 325i. She thought both were fantastic except for the constant technical (emissions related, we are on the US west coast) malheur after that. So perhaps prefer an E3 with three liters….

    • Beautiful car from the time that BMW still built real cars…. When I was a teenager I regularly saw an M635 Csi driving near my school…. I fell in love with that bright red thoroughbred with that incredible 6-cylinder sound. It is strange that a four-speed gearbox was originally installed in that car… My E21 318i from '81 has a five-speed gearbox, just like my E28 525i from '84.

  5. In 2008 I exchanged a BMW 318i (E46) 1998 against a BMW 633CSi from 1979, originally delivered in the Netherlands. This swap didn't make me cry and the 633CSi is still in my possession. A reliable classic for rides and events for years. In those 12 years I only had a brake overhaul in addition to normal maintenance. But then I also have to do my best to drive 1000 Km between the biennial MOT!

  7. Very nice car. Secretly on my wish list. Never dared. Still afraid of hidden defects. Now an E39 525 M sport from 2001. Was on the same list.

Lots of fun and safe kilometers!

    Regards, Marc

    • Very nice and nice car.
I myself am the proud owner of a 628 1987 csi so I know a little bit what I'm talking about.

Cherish such a beautiful Bavarian, but also let out regularly!
