In the 'difficult' years of BMW, Austrian dealer Walter Denzel managed to convince the management of BMW that there was a better life after the Isetta. BMW had to become an adult car manufacturer again. Many conversations later, the Italian grandmaster Michelotti was instructed to design something nice, a car that was suitable for mass production and would appeal to buyers.

Because the German motorcycle and automobile manufacturer was about to 'fall over', technology had to be gathered within the factory walls. This led to the choice of the two-cylinder boxer engine of the BMW R67 motorcycle - which also powered the Isetta in the 600 cm3 version, the cylinder capacity of which was slightly increased to 697 cm3. It also became the first BMW with a self-supporting carriage.

Introduction

In 1959, the BMW 700 debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show as Sedan and Coupé. It was an immediate success and such that the takeover talks with Mercedes-Benz - who had almost reached the final - were abruptly interrupted. A cabriolet version followed some time later. In 1965, the curtain fell on the BMW 700 after 188.211 units had seen the light of day. More than half a century later, a BMW 700 is an extremely rare appearance and worth focusing on.
