Purchasing classics there

From the start, the Citroën 2 CV an outsider. There was no need to like it because it was built to be convenient, practical and useful. You will still find the same characteristic in the Citroën 2 CV, and what's good lasts a long time.

By: Dirk de Jong

Naturally, the car has been improved over the years and adapted to the demands of traffic. It is comfortable due to its abundance of space and the four independent suspension wheels, which smoothly absorb all road bumps. Peter loves classics and vintage cars that radiate creativity and wrote history. Peter clearly has a taste for it Citroën and is happy to tell something about his 'voiture pupulaire'.

Amusement value

Peter: “I like the 2CV in its original original condition. So no restoration, no new paint job anywhere. The photos accompanying this article are proof: tattered chairs, worn carpet and the sober design intact. This makes it clear that I love cars as they were once made and on which the traces of (car) life are visible. My amenity value is great and purely focused on driving pleasure. ”

Sensation

The feeling what Peter is with Citroën 2 CV from 1957 corresponds to the French journalist who was introduced to this new four-seater utility vehicle in 1949. He wrote, “I was still morally prepared spiritually to be so suddenly confronted with this extremely funny and extraordinary cart. I saw a number of people bent over the hood of this special car. ” The cart in question was a much talked about - not to say - also much criticized 2 CV Citroën. An unsightly pamphlet.

That said the engine would be a 375 cc, an air-cooled two-cylinder OHV that would deliver 9 HP. The windshield wipers worked on the speedometer, so that nothing happened when the car was stationary, a manual control was available for that. Front wheel drive, centrifugal clutch, oil pressure brakes and an interesting suspension system. All things that were interesting enough, according to Citroën- to make it a great success.

Brave in hectic traffic

Peter provides an annual treatment with anti-rust oil for the underside, the paintwork is treated with RX 5, whereby the rusty spots are preserved. It will be clear that with the start pull button the Citroën 2 CV AZL from 1957 is brought back to life without any problems, and still holds its own in traffic. Peter fills with his Citroën 2 Resume the classic hobby in its own way. The underlying idea is also the use of free time, which, as a bonus, provides pleasure and relaxation. How do you fulfill your classic hobby?

  1. Dear 2cv enthusiast, your citroen are maintained with anti-rust oil, I also have one
oldtimer from 1970, I also spray it with diluted cardan oil. whether it works? ?
my question is which anti-rust oil is used for this 2 cv? ? ? i want to try this oil too. Marinus Brouwer, a loyal reader of Auto and Motor magazine.

  2. I think a car should look like the manufacturer intended, I find this completely terrible and in my eyes these types of owners are just too lazy to carry out a decent restoration, but this is of course completely my opinion. You are also not going to live in a house that looks like this citroen.

  3. I am also from that year. Our first car was a 2 1959cv. BG-23-55. At that time already had 12 hp, I think. Belonged to grandpa. Had been on fire because he forgot to take the blanket off on a cold morning. Mothers made new upholstery from old green curtains. Against the wind on the Afsluitdijk back in the 3. (with 6 persons) and pitchers at the feet. Wonderful time.

  4. Wonderful article, also a duck from 1960 Org Dutch and nothing “happy” about it happens, thanks to Sander aaldering the correct preservative advice and guaranteed years of driving pleasure, it does not look like a layman, but connoisseurs are happy to borrow it for a week
