Citroën Acadiane (1980): A worthy delivery van for Jan Gerrit.

Purchasing classics there

What inspired Jan Gerrit to buy a classic French car where the rust devil has been more than active? The bottom is now as crispy as a pizza and the sheet metal of the small van also deserves the necessary attention. And that while in the Netherlands you can still buy a good MOT approved Acadiane, with which you can hit the road right away.

It is the choice for character and distinction, and also the fascination for the technology of the past. He wants to lie under the car himself, do the welding and do all the work himself. It is clear that it takes a while for the Acadiane to enrich the classic file. The Acadiane was marketed in 1978 and produced until 1986. The small van was an ideal combination of comfort and great handling.

Jan Gerrit: “The unusual is the best. For me, refurbishing is slowing down, of course also a bit of nostalgia, the memory of an earlier era. Money doesn't matter. A perfect Acadiane would perhaps be a nice eye-catching investment for others, but for me and my wife Margriet that certainly does not matter. ”

Margriet: “I was very happy with the purchase. When I saw the mischievous cart it tickled. That was only a car with those nice ridges in the tin. I like it, I think it is beautiful, I am going for the Acadiane. ”

History

With a big smile on his face, he talked about the first costs, the quest, the tip money, the transport costs and the arrival in the Netherlands. The carte grise contained the information that Monsieur Jean Marie Patenat was the owner. That the Citroën is described as Fourgon and title deeds are signed by the Prefecture du Jura (Southern France). That the French cart has grown tired. That the carriage must be lifted. The bottom has been provided with the necessary vistas, which have already emerged after a critical investigation. It is also certain that salvation is near. After forty years, the French freight barge no longer has to bear any operating load.

Picture of the future

If the Acadiane is back in good condition, the first paint remains, then it will show its best side. Waddling and swinging on the winding roads in the countryside of Friesland is the Citroën Acadiane certainly in his element.

Laughed at?

Jan Gerrit: “Despite the fact that we may be laughed at and criticized, it remains a car that is close to our heart. The elegance of a 'fun car', the love for an exclusive Citroën in the shape of an Acadiane. If in the future - after a lot of time, energy and euros - it has become an eye-catching cup of coffee, then we know who laughs last. ”

  1. As a 2nd car it should have an automatic transmission. Because my better half doesn't want anything else. Did someone never come up with the idea to put that together?
Not even able to find it in the us.
At least 2 Bernen Senners fit in the tray 😜 I immediately have a valid reason for the expense. And the expenses afterwards. 😎

    • The 2CV is with an halfadelivered automatically. Well, a centrifugal clutch. You can't get closer to an automatic in these cars.

But you don't need what is not in it.

  2. Nice car, nice French. The predecessor was the AK series (or order duck, 1951-1979). The ACA was immediately a lot more luxurious at the front, as Dyane. The Ami version has unfortunately been skipped, which would have been a luxury workhorse. The successor was the C15 or a Visa with tray (1984-2005). It was done with the chassis-body construction and air cooling.

In the French countryside, the C15s are still driving near bushes after 15 years of production to prepare and bring in the grape harvest. Nowadays come again for such long production and usage times.

In any case, they were all environmentally conscious cars. Little use of materials and super efficient with energy. In use for a long time, reuse of second-hand parts and at some point they had largely disappeared by themselves, so little load in the waste circuit.

  3. It's great that someone sees how beautiful these cars are and wants to invest time in them.
For me as a city dweller it would not be a problem financially, time is also available.
Only space nearby to do it without haste is missing .. this car no longer belong outside all year round

  4. Nice article; sympathetic auootje.
Good luck with the restoration; we will get to see the result in due course ..
A small correction: Jura is not South, but East France.
