For Citroën There is plenty to choose from for BX fanatics today. The number of BX copies offered is still large today. However, to find a specific copy with a perfect state of maintenance and few kilometers, you have to make more effort. At Gerard Kramer Klassiekers in Wolvega we found two copies from the same 'limited edition' series, which also dates from the BX Phase II series.

This concerns the Millésime, which was on the (French) program from 1990 to 1992. This was based on the BX 16 TGS. There are two versions imported from France in Wolvega, and we are taking the one painted in beige metallic. That is a truly beautiful car. This Millésime has really just been run in, the mileage of just over 52.000 can almost be called virgin. This certainly applies to the condition of the car. All fluids were replaced, the BX received new spring balls and you don't have to worry about the timing belt either. That happened at 49.000 km. Virgin also applies to the underside and exterior. The BX looks fantastic, and so do the wheels. The mounted aluminum wheels were once very expensive and original Citroën option. And today they enrich the car, also because they have been blasted, powder-coated and turned. To complete the party, this BX also received a set of new tires.

Alors. To ride. And we do this with a car that was extensively equipped for its time. The right exterior mirror and the front door windows are all electrically operated. The three-spoke steering wheel can be operated with power. There are two roller blinds that can be stretched over the rear window. The glass is tinted. There is a large spoiler on the tailgate. We already mentioned the rims. And if everything needs to be locked, this can be done via central locking with remote control. The furniture comes from the GTI and is covered with beautiful velvet.

The 89 DIN hp XU5M 3Z injection engine is housed in the front. That is the 1580 cc power source with Magneti Marelli fuel supply. The engine is mated to the five-speed manual gearbox. The clutch and gear shift work well together, and communicate excellently with the driver. The technology in the front is sufficient, but it is important to keep this power source above 2800 rpm to guarantee good acceleration. This also works in that case, thanks to the fairly short fourth and fifth gears, which together with the differential ensure a fairly short overall transmission.

The BX drives comfortably, but those looking for the real old hydropneumatic Citroën comfort should know that this BX is equipped with standard spring balls. There are also BXs equipped with comfort balls, and the difference is clearly noticeable in the road and suspension behavior. It's what you want. If you use the BX Millésime with the aim of having an active and slightly sporty driving style, then this car is the choice. You will still have plenty of comfort left to enjoy. But as mentioned: the other BX Millésime in Kramer's collection has the comfort balls. And that is a noticeable difference.

The seats in this car aren't buttery soft either; However, they are comfortable and provide good support. In that sense they do match the suspension character of the car, the combination of the seating characteristic and spring balls matches. The controls are a bit indirect, without being vague. The steering feel is good. What you have to get used to is that the brake pedal is tucked a little deeper. You see that more often Citroëns with a hydropneumatic system. Once you have found that pedal, you will quickly discover that the braking system works very efficiently. A small, measured touch is enough to... Citroën into the anchors and be assured of a good, straight-ahead braking distance.

Even though the BX was of course built under PSA auspices: in many respects the car proves itself to be a real Citroën. Yes, it could have been a little more comfortable, but that is a matter of personal and brand experience. In terms of operating structure, layout, appearance, controls and (in several respects) the operation, this second-generation BX certainly distinguished itself from many competitors. Nowadays you don't find a BX in this condition very often. And that's why this one is Citroën a car that especially appeals to the BX enthusiast, and should end up there. This one will enjoy it for a long time and for many kilometers.

  1. In 1983, one of the first, I bought a BX14 and two years later a 16 (overhead camshaft), brand new. And I have crossed Europe for work and on holiday. Fantastic machines, modern (the engine bay was wider than it was long!), fast, comfortable and economical. Awesome!

  2. I once bought a TZD Turbo for € 150,00 from the first owner and dealer maintained with only 368.000 kilometers. Dent in the right rear door, otherwise neat. Never had any problems with it. Afterwards a BX 1.4 monopoint injection, only original gray GTI seats, 0 options. Also problem-free….

  3. Site
Well, I have a BX 19 TZI from 1991. Bought new and still in my possession. Now with just 62.000 kilometers on the odometer. Fantastic to take a tour in the summer. A smile from ear to ear and ehhhh you can still keep up with today's traffic. More than 108 HP and just 1000 kilograms. 😄

  4. If I'm not mistaken, the Netherlands had a similar model, the BX Chic.
Also a 1.6, sports seats, gray and a rear spoiler.

In the end, those rims were often part of the promotional packages that were delivered. The BX Deauville, a 1.4, also had them.

In 1990 I did an internship at one Citroëndealer as a junior salesperson and permanent employee from the end of 1992. So I sold them new. Wonderful and well-equipped cars. Competitively priced and extremely reliable and solid. At the time I really didn't understand why people bought Opel Astras and VW Golfs if you could get a much more spacious, better equipped and much more comfortable car for less money. Citroën BX bought.

Because I have to limit myself in terms of space and therefore concentrated on British, I don't have one. But I'm still looking at a BX. Great cars.

  5. I bought my first BX 1984 TRS on LPG in 1.6. With those rocker switches.
Then a 1900 GT on LPG. Then 2 diesels. The latter a Turbo diesel TZD. I had them all with a tinted window in the back panels. Had a lot of driving pleasure. I drove approximately 60.000 km/year. I recently considered buying one again, but I probably won't drive it enough.
I also noticed the classics I had previously, including MG Midget, MGB and Morris Minor convertible. Then another Puch and Solex.

  6. What a pearl. One of the last iconic models. In my opinion the last one is the xm, but certainly not nicer than the bx. Delicious.

  7. Beautiful car, this subject of article.
The Milésimme's are promotional models, I myself had a Xantia Milésimme; just a little more luxurious than the basic version.
I wish the new owner of this BX many carefree hours of gliding
