Citroën C6. A look into the future

Purchasing classics there

In our world it is regularly about the prices of classics. Unfortunately, these prices are no longer based on passion, but work according to the standards of the market. Classics have been recognized as investment stuff. And if the neo liberal monster slams its claws into something ...

Back in the days…

What is often dreamily mentioned is that classics 'used to' cost nothing. An Ugly Duck? You had that for 100-300 guilders. And Honda CB 750 Four, a very neat Honda CB 750 Four? You had that for 2.000 guilders. And the parts? That was knackwerk from the demolition or excavated from the dustiest corner of the warehouse. And even then there were already cars that were unsaleable. With that you could drive very cheaply if you didn't care what the neighborhood thought. And now precisely those once recognized shop daughters are worth money. Simply because there are not many (anymore) of them.

With today's knowledge

So with the knowledge of today we could have made our move. And as a pleasant side effect, we were now all wealthy. Because a 2CV for 25.000 euros?
We now want to take a look at the future. Because what will soon be, when America has its first female, black lesbian president and when the Netherlands has become a republic, the car that you absolutely must have? Then consider purchasing one Citroen C6.
De Citroën C6 was a large upper middle class passenger car. The C6 was first presented in 2005 at the Geneva Motor Show.

Had to compete with ...

The C6 is based on a concept car, the C6 Lignage, presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1999. The plan was to use the Citroën XM by replacing the C6, but production of the XM was discontinued in 2000 after 11 years. The C6 would not be on the market until 5 years later. In the meantime, the battle cry of December was valid: “My heart beats with anticipation”.

Around the turn of the year to 2004 we saw the first spy photos of the large sedan. Released in September 2004 Citroën the C6 before its premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2005, exactly 6 years after the presentation of the C6 Lignage.

On July 14, 2005, French President Jacques Chirac appeared in a Citroën C6. That C6 was used until 2008 by his successor Nicolas Sarkozy. Shortly afterwards, more were increasing in France Citroëns C6 observed… Which were used by the manufacturer as demo models for future buyers.

Lots of pluses (and vulnerable techniques). The car competed with cars such as the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Jaguar S-Type. The C6 has a large interior space, with its large wheelbase of 2,9 meters. It is equipped with innovative features such as the active bonnet that absorbs pedestrians in the event of a collision, the cornering xenon headlamps and the Lane Departure Warning system. Citroën also offers a HUD display, which projects the most important travel information, such as the driven speed and directions from the navigation system, into the windscreen. The C6 uses a hydropneumatic suspension. The ground clearance of the car can be adapted to the conditions and unevenness in the road surface is almost completely filtered by the suspension.

'Fin'

The last production model left the production line on December 19, 2012 from the Rennes-la-Janais factory in Chartres-de-Bretagne. Such an impressive Citroen is very prestigious. There is even now a club of enthusiasts: The C6 Genootschap. And to want such a C6 you have to be quite brave. There are some pain points in the concept.

Make your move now!

But currently you already have such a topper from 2.500 euros. For amounts around 5 mille you have plenty of choice and around 10.000 euros are the toppers. The parts are expensive and / or scarce. The revolutionary electronics at the time ... Ai ...

Wondering how many of the 23.000 are still driving ...

On request we will send you a PDF with more info.

And in 25, let it be thirty years, everyone will be proud to know you as a C6 owner. Because to rule is to look ahead. Whatever they think of it in The Hague.

  1. I have no ambition to become vice president, but I do have the ambition to get my C6 round the clock at least 5 times. By then it is already a classic. And well the costs, good maintenance works wonders. I float and so continue to dream relaxed. And there is another active C6 club: c6-friends.

  2. I want to know how many are left of the 23000. In the meantime I have had 4, 3x a 2.7hdi from the early years and 1x a 3.0hdi from November 2012, one of the last. In my view, the 2.7hdi versions from the beginning are smoother and finer and usually more richly equipped, the 3.0hdi buttery soft and can be chipped up to 280hp, making it easier to respond to the accelerator and more economical.

    Great cars to cherish.

  3. Drive a C8 6 diesel for over 3.0 years now, yes the fixed costs are disproportionately high compared to modest kilometers and no, the costs are really not too bad, provided the maintenance is done by passionate experts. Driving pleasure can hardly be expressed in money!

  4. I think the C6 is above the upper middle class. Very unfortunate that this car has barely had a chance to make that class a bit more beautiful than it is now.

  5. I can picture it, Whoopy Goldberg President, Ellen Vice President and Geert Wilders somewhere in a reserve in the Veluwe,. Can you buy a ticket to see him one more time as a quite special remaining Dutchman.
And how are we going there, right, with the C6.
My Father took me to the RAI in, I think 1956, where I saw a DS-19 for the first time. As a small child instantly in love, and now as an old child still addicted to Citroen.
Except my family and good friends, Maria Dolores Pradera, the Caravelle and the Concorde, nothing has given me more pleasure than driving in a Citroen. Too bad there is unrest at my southern neighbors, but despite Covid still driving happily Dieselend around in my CX.
Obviously this will be blamed on me by some people, but I dont care.
I am also still grateful that my eyes are good enough to be able to and read something every day in the AMK. The amount of work that those people do behind the scenes is magnificent. Greetings from a warm YVR.

  6. It is a pity that you draw them to the attention of the C6; ever my next car.
The diesel models cannot be worn out here in the Netherlands, because they are too expensive in fixed costs.
The petrol models with manual gearbox are very expensive, because they are rare.
Fantastic car, too bad there is no buying public for large Cit's .. then also the death blow for the XM.

    • We are more likely to get ahead in loving classics that have not yet been discovered. Maybe we should start asking for hush money. A friend with a C6 regularly turns white when he has to pay for a repair. To please you we will no longer bring up C6s. That's how it goes with enthusiasts among themselves!
