DieselThe storm is over: Classic driving is fun again. And sustainable.
The storm is over: Classic driving is fun again. The people who drove an old Mercedes diesel that was no longer allowed in Germany for purely budgetary reasons are massively brewing on new Smart Plans in order to be as cheap as possible. For example, running after a tram is cheaper than catching a tram. Running after a taxi is even more profitable. And their former, holder-free means of transport are back to the market value they actually already had: “ZERO”.
We, as true classic car enthusiasts, pay a bit more for our cars that until recently were really holder-free, but the general opinion is that it doesn't really hurt us. Smoking is only an expensive hobby.
The sad thing is of course that we have just been fooled again. Because the production of every 'clean' car still does not do much good to the finite stocks of raw materials and the increase in plestik components, the environment does not recover either. And nobody talks about the dirt and the energy that is needed to make more and more batteries for electric or hybrid vehicles. And also not about the fact that all those dead batteries will soon cause a massive piece of environmental problems.

VOLVOIn Germany, it has already been calculated that you can drive a well-maintained Volvo 240 or Mercedes mid-sized car for over forty years before you have created as much environmental impact as there is 'free' from the manufacture of one Toyota Prius. Germans love that kind of math. And the propaganda for modern 'clean' cars has only been driven by the industry that has discovered 'Environment' as a 'selling point'. And various owners of such cars have now passed their holder-free period and are already starting to see their cars with different eyes.
So we should be rewarded for classic M? V drivers. We drive sustainably. And much more relaxed than the M? V lease knights who are in their traffic jammed in with electronic gadgets with a low% tax contribution with a departed peek in the traffic jam because they are going to miss their next appointment. This smart fiscal support, like many of our government's plans, has cost more than it has yielded.

We, classic enthusiasts, drive sustainably. Classic driving fits into the new age world of thought. We have to live more sustainably, more pleasantly and more economically. And by maintaining a classic you show respect to the past, the present and the future. We are faced with the limitations of our transportation. We are not only at peace with that, we experience it as pleasant. And the current misguided plus all the speed limits make the current power outputs and achievable speeds of almost all modern cars about as sensible, practical and fun as you or I would have been made 84 centimeters tall. With the folding rule next to it, it is very impressive. But what else can you do with it? To trip? Waving to passing inland vessels? Like an elephant trying to pick up peanuts with it?
BXSomeone in the team drives one here Citroën BX from 1991. The fourteen hundred runs one in fifteen and weighs almost nothing. It is a full-fledged car .. That costs almost nothing and is technically at the most friendly level. Go on vacations. To France of course. And - the owner emphasizes -: It's a Real one Citroën.

But in the meantime, all the hassle in the world of holding has earned us a lot of profit. The classic trade has suffered a trauma on the trade side. And it is now that even the Portuguese have discovered the Netherlands as a cheap island when it comes to the purchase of classics.

AMPHICARAnd then it's not just about classics with a high sustainable use value, but also about Jaguars, Corvettes and other top classers. Cars with prices that make us Dutch shudder. But recently a Frenchman from Nice came to watch an Amphicar of 45.000 euro. And the Mercedes Staatslimousine that belonged to Mao Tse Dong?

He went back through a Dutch trader. Not to Germany. To China.

So let's no longer sit down and dream, but work hard on sustainability and our happiness: Buy (more) a classic (at)!
