From September 16 to 18, the TT circuit in Assen will be dominated by a lot of motor and motorsport history. The TT circuit has often hosted major races with great drivers. History was made. The organization is energetically returning to this with a wonderful programme. One of the big surprises in there is the return of a legend. Because on 17 and 18 September Giacomo Agostini will return to Assen.

Classic GP Assen. Versatile spectacle coming up

Legendary prototype Group C cars, classic formula cars, iconic sports cars and unforgettable Grand Prix motorcycles can be admired from 16 to 18 September in the 'Cathedral of Speed' during the Classic GP at the TT Circuit Assen. For fans who want to meet drivers and mechanics of that era, who want to show their own pride on wheels, or who just want to soak up the atmosphere of historic racers on a famous track, the Classic GP Assen is a wonderful late summer event. In addition, it offers a chock-full of classic competition programme. Inside, drivers with classic track cars and great competition bikes of yesteryear show their skills during the historic races. A tip from the veil: Daniel Schrey will be driving his circuit laps with the Porsche 935 Kremer K3. And so the organization has provided many more beautiful historical surprises.

Legendary Grand Prix Motorcycles

Of course, Assen does not ignore the rich motorsport history. The TT Circuit is the only one in the world where the world's best motorcycle racers with illustrious competition bikes have been racing since the start of the World Championship. A total of 140 Grand Prix machines from 34 brands (originating from 16 countries) will return to the 'Circuit van Drenthe'. The Classic GP presents full grids of original Grand Prix motorcycles in the 125cc, 250cc, 350cc and 500cc classes.

Giacomo Agostini: return of a great champion

Giacomo Agostini won 15 world titles and 122 GP races between 1965 and 1976. No one has come close to this achievement since then, with the exception of Italian Valentino Rossi, who took nine world titles and 1996 GP victories between 2017 and 115. Agostini made a breakthrough in motorsport. The charismatic Italian was the first motorcycle racer to sign major sponsorship contracts, his achievements were more than change. Characteristic was that a large part of his successes were achieved with his MV Agustas. During the Classic GP Assen, Ago is reunited with his roaring four-stroke MV Agusta 500/3.

65 years of Yamaha racing history in Assen

Agostini also displayed his prize-winning arts in Japanese service. In 1975, his last season, he won Yamaha's first world title and the first two-stroke in the 500cc category. Yamaha will get a special place during the Classic GP anyway. The Japanese constructor achieved many successes in Drenthe. And four Yamaha racers from yesteryear return. Phil Read, Dieter Braun and Carlos Lavado - together with Giacomo Agostini - will show their skills on the TT Circuit on September 17 and 18. The Yamaha Racing Heritage Club also plays an important role: they celebrate Yamaha's 65-year racing history with a number of illustrious factory bikes.
