Classic: What is in a name?

That is free to Shakespeare. Very free. But it is a consideration after the reports about stopping the production of the V-Rod, the current floor prices of early Buells and the end of the Victory motorcycles.

"Our classics" are usually the vehicles from nostalgia, from our youth, the car or motorcycle from our fathers. The dreams we had. We live from the perspective that our favorite vehicles have emotional added value. And reality has overtaken us left and right. Because De Moderne Mensch views classics as an investment object. Because it cannot be true that something that is no more or less than a dated piece of technology is suddenly worth tens of millions? That type of vehicle shifts via the stage of Bonhams, for example, from one air-conditioned safe to the other.

Let's check out what's on the wish list of investors
* The current interest rate makes the purchase profitable.
* There may not be many (made) And in addition Harley-Davidsons and Rolls Royces are no longer guaranteed toppers
* The history of the vehicle. Has anything been won with it? Has an American president been shot dead?
*The previous owner. The Mercedes 600 'Lang' from Mao Ze Dong is worth more than the Ford Escort from Clown Bassie.
* The demand must be greater than the supply. Status counts heavily in the greed factor
* Originality weighs heavily. The factory originality then. The remodeled and gilded Cloud II from Zsa sa Gabor may be an exception because a lot of money does not guarantee good taste.

Many older people in their fifties and younger sixties are therefore in a painful field of tension. If they (like us) want to return to the engines and cars of their (our) youth, then they (we) get a hard reset. You used to ride a Haley-Davidson WLA or WLC if you were an ambitious student or braided student. You bought such a thing between the 100-300 guilder. Now € 12.500 is a reasonable price.

There was someone 1979 in Hilversum who gave his Velocette Thruxton away because he didn't get the bitch started and nobody else wanted to give a guilder for such an English corpse. Recently, one left here in the region for € 32.500.

The Honda CB450 Black Bomber is now definitely a classic But someone once rode it in his college days because the used Honda cost even less than an old Brit, was faster and more reliable. The man in question saw the bike from his youth now with an asking price of € 13.500.

So everything will ever be worth money. And the time when you found the parts of that type of transport for 'a few knocks' on the demolition has already passed decades.

That is why it is just for the sake of naughtiness and for the sake of children and grandchildren alone to look at what will be asked later. And moreover, the prices of classics that are just a lot of fun to drive are much more manageable than those of the top auction pieces. So we don't have to be without it.

Because now there is one of the three Sachs 800 Roadsters registered in NL in an unsightly company in Arnhem.

And what is it worth in forty years?
