Purchasing classics there

In Utrecht there will be a policy to ban 'dirty' cars. That, of course, is another example of symbolic policy.

There is of course only 1 reason to clear out old (and therefore classic) cars: The car lobby believes that more new cars should be sold.

But if we look at what the governors of Utrecht have come up with, we can possibly estimate what awaits us if Leeuwarden, Hardenberg, Katwijk, Drempt, Rotterdam and Brunssum also plan such actions.

Do vintage cars also fall under the environmental zone?

The Utrecht city council has decided that old-timers on diesel with a Date First Admission from 40 year or older can get an exemption. If you receive an exemption for this, the license plate of your car is known to the municipality and you will not be fined if you enter the environmental zone. In 2015 these are cars older than 1975, in 2016 cars older than 1976, and so on.

What is the Date First Admission (DET)?

The Date First Admission (DET) is the date on which the car was first used and received a license plate. You can read the Date of First Admission on your registration certificate or the license plate check to do.

What is the fine for violation of the environmental zone?

From 1 in May 2015, offenders from the environmental zone will receive a fine of € 90. This is a lower amount than the € 160 that the municipality has communicated so far. This is because the central government has not yet adopted the proposal to extend the current road sign with regard to the environmental zone (C22) with the categories of passenger cars and delivery vans. The municipality is therefore still awaiting this decision.
As a result, from 1 in May 2015 is maintained with the general prohibition sign (C6) and a corresponding bottom sign. As soon as the C22 traffic sign has been established by the national government, it can also be applied by Utrecht. From that moment the fine will amount to € 160.

... and then the Tour de France would not be harmful to the environment in the city center?
