An AMK reader got the shock of his life. During the enormous heat of recently he of course saves with the hood closed and the windows open.
On a secondary road he met one of those multi-axled roadwork mastodons who thundered towards him at full trot.
The shockwave of the air front pushed by the massive nose of the sand wagon first hit hard in its overpressure phase and then, as it passed, gave a rock hard jerk to the convertible and its hood.
The fixings with which the hood was attached to the windshield were torn loose and the convertible top itself made a half flip backwards ...
The shockwave story apparently also applies to hardtops ...
So cabriolet drivers: drive cautiously when approaching large oncoming traffic. Slightly slower, a little more to the verge….
