Purchasing classics there

What is known about this special creation? The search ended with Mr. R. Maas from the municipality of Eersel. He must have been a heartfelt individualist, because he didn't want a car if everyone had one. Instead, he wanted a car that was completely different according to his own wishes. He came into contact with this special vehicle on the dune circuit in Zandvoort, where the hobby car was used for the racing course. Maybe to experience what it felt like behind the wheel of this Colorado. Learn how to push the limits, and of course experience the tension.

Anthology

The anthology of its origins is not yet complete. The chassis came from the FIAT Topolino with gearbox and rear axle. And the engine, which is again very special, would be from a BMW 750 cc Sahara that was also used in the jeeps of the desert fox Erwin Rommel in 1944.

How did Dirk Colorado become an owner?

In 2019, this creation was offered on a BVA auction site, in a sad state. Almost all parts were gone. There was only a body on wheels. For Dirk there was nothing better than restoring this special mini racing car. A wonderful feeling, the search for parts, which perhaps even had to be copied. Using creativity and insight to solve problems.

Patience

Have patience, lots of patience. (It is the art of waiting.) The restoration took 1,5 years of pleasure. Everything was taken care of and rebuilt. Perhaps technically no longer similar to the original, but clearly the pleasure that you have achieved something yourself. For example, a petrol tank came from an Opel Kadett and the power source became a 2CV engine, now with a modest power. The advantage of the 2CV engine was the low load on the front axle, which made moderate hobby use more fun. (Just think about the sound.)

Modern adaptations

Dirk: “For comfort and use, newer parts were added, such as comfortable seats, a beautiful steering wheel and beautiful clocks on the dashboard. As far as I know, there have only been five owners of this self-build. Now that everything is done and finished, I am very satisfied. We are now going for the first prize at the concours d”elegance!”

    • That “info from 1993” comes 1 to 1 from the standard work of Jan Lammerse, Autodesign in the Netherlands.

Is a photo of the owner in the car.
2 owner brother of previous owner mister Zax .
    3 owner I .
    4 owner …….
    5 owner current .
And really taken from chicken shed in parts.
Once built by two employees of the DAF factory.
    To Race.
They once did training with it for the race, but the race never came, because the fenders ended up under the car.
I sold the car to ……. known in the racing world and they would rebuild it.
Ended up on BVA due to lack of money etc.

When it left me it was 80 percent complete.
With engine, box seats etc etc.
