At the beginning of the 80 years, Renault started to outsource design jobs. There was a whole philosophy behind the state-owned company. But of course it was all about him again. Regular designers on the payroll are expensive things.
The Gabbiano was presented at the fair in Geneva in 1983. The technique was just that of the 1400 11 TSE, a four-pits carburetor. The block delivered a horsepower or 70 to the five-speed gearbox. And 'Gabbiano' is of course Italian for 'seagull'
In the interior it was a lot more futuristic under the motto "more is better". The car must have been fully functional. But it only stayed with a single seagull. And according to the proverb it doesn't make spring yet ... Or was that a swallow now?
But somewhere we see the genes of the seagull in the R5. Also a nice car.
