The Concours d'élégance at Paleis Het Loo has become a resounding success. Not only did the weather gods approve of the beautiful collection of classics from their best side, the event also reached unprecedented heights in terms of visitor numbers. As with any self-respecting competition, here too prestigious prizes were awarded to a happy few. Although the battle was fierce and the jury had a tough time, we couldn't have made the choice better. Because say for yourself, what could be better than a Fiat 8V Supersonic (International Competition) or a Toyota 2000 GT (National Competition).
A delighted organization: “In the nine-year history of the Competition, so many visitors never came to the palace gardens. No less than 20.000 car enthusiasts were amazed and saw a huge collection of historic quadricycles, here and there lined up with a classic of the future. Jan Peter: “What a huge stream of visitors, it didn't end. And everyone agrees that our Competition has grown into a mature and exclusive event that has no equal in the Netherlands. We can be proud of that. ”
Masterpieces
The international competition had such 100 masterpieces, cars with a special story and all well worth seeing. The jury of the 25 headcounters chose the Fiat 8V Supersonic as 'Best of Show', with which owner Jan de Reu earned a Chopard watch. The Autovisie competition was won by the special Toyota 2000 GT from Jacques Albers.
Use
Alfa Romeo used the competition for his 100e birthday and present the new Giulietta to the visitors. Hans Vervoorn van Alfa: “For us, the Concours is a way to bridge the gap between past and present: classic cars and new four-wheelers with a classic name.”
Tire series
Tire firm Vredestein launched a tire line for the classic Daf at the competition this year. Rob Oudshoorn from Vredestein: “It is a great platform to display products. The quality of the event is at an even higher level than before. This applies to the cars and the entourage. Consider, for example, the spectacular 'Brutus' that impressed with its 46 liter engine during the Vredestein sprint. But we also come into contact here with clubs that have specific tire requirements and for which we can make limited tire series. ”
To June
For the next Competition in Apeldoorn you have to wait a little - probably until 2012 - and move it a little forward, to the month of June. A logical choice in connection with important international competitions in the late summer period. Organizer Jan-Peter Nijmeijers: “This gives us the opportunity to take the cars to an even higher level. World class in Apeldoorn, wouldn't that be great? ”
In 2008 I already went to the concours d'elegance and was therefore very excited to visit again this year.
The classics were beautiful. but still I have a mixed feeling about the concours d'elegance.
Why?
- Firstly, the price has doubled compared to 2008. I really do not see that added value in what was offered.
– Secondly, I don't think the entourage is anything to write home about. At 100 Alfa I had a nice overview Alfais expected. Mind you the cars that were there were great but the whole thing looked messy. I come across something like this on an old-timer day in Joure.
- Thirdly, I think that too little account is taken of the fact that many people take photos. The information signs at the cars are good but are 9 out of 10 in the way.
– Fourth, the classic car park was a real mess. I thought a classic should be about 25 years old. I was therefore surprised to find a Burton. In addition, the layout for the Alfacould've been better. I'm not waiting to see 10 of the same Spiders, but had a variety on Alfa types more beautiful.
For example, I found several of the same cars or NOT classics.
All in all, I certainly did not find it worth € 20 per person per day.
In 2008 I was also able to visit 't Loo for € 15 per person.
If we are going to compare the price with another event that is probably more highly regarded, namely Schloss Dyck, then I find what is being offered is grossly over priced !.
At Schloss Dyck I have lost € 25 for 2 days and bidding is more too. So you can understand where we are going next year.

I just read that Mr Lagaay will take a seat on the jury on Sunday.
Now I own a car that was designed by this gentleman. You will say that there are more than one. Yes that's right.
This concerns the BMW Z1. A few years ago Mr. Lagaay would be present at a Z1 ride. Unfortunately, that was canceled.
What do I want?
I have a number of signatures from people who have worked on this car, such as Mr. Lutz Jansen and the test driver at the time.
So I actually miss the most important signature, so that of Mr Lagaay and then the question has already been asked !!
Perhaps it is possible (the chance that Mr. Lagaay will come closer to me is nil and finding him is impossible) that he wants to place a signature in the cover of my Z1.
Of course I will be there on Sunday with my Z1. I would love to hear from you if possible and how that can be arranged.
