Craft or prototype? That was the question that played in the Voskuil home.
And then it was about a 'barnfind', a barn find. About a motorcycle that had been dreaming for decades in a shed of an abandoned Dutch farm. Close to the house and business of Teun Voskuil itself.
In the Netherlands, not in France or England. There, such finds are becoming increasingly rare. The real treasures are currently just in the Netherlands.
The intriguing thing about the find is that it does not appear to be a purebred specimen. Because a DKW (once the world's most important motorcycle brand) with an Ariel four-stroke block? In terms of costs, this very old 'conversion' must not have been a sensible option.
Historically, in case of engine damage, another DKW block could have been loaded. Fresh Ariel engines were expensive and not widely available.
So is this a craft of a talented Willie Carrot with enough guilders or is it a real DKW prototype?
Who knows, you can say it… You can read the entire story in AMK issue 10, the October issue.
