We were asked if anyone could tell something about DAF engines, the air-cooled boxers for use in light aircraft.
A person from Eindhoven would have been busy with such a project somewhere at the end of the 60. The idea was apparently to conquer the American aircraft market with it. There is a rumor that he used VW cylinders and heads for his project.
The only thing that is so far clear is that the plan failed.
Anyone have any idea?
We have just checked with our DAF fers in the DAF Museum. There they knew the following:
Mr. JH Theuns from Berkhout (near Hoorn) has in the past made 33 and 44 engines with a size of 844 cc. To increase the stroke volume, he used a VW cylinder to get to 935 cc. The drill ring of this was 90,5 mm, stroke 73,5 mm. Compressor: 8 1/2. 42 SAE horsepower at 4000 rpm. 7,1 SE / kg at 2300 rpm.
The museum also referred to the site quoted by Mr. van Geel.
