Purchasing classics there

It's almost unbelievable, but there are differences between the 'normal' Fiat 500 and three years later introduced and certainly 10 centimeter longer stationcar version that we know as Giardiniera! Apart from the sheet metal work, many non-interchangeable parts must also be taken into account technically.

The engine of an ordinary 500 - type 110 - does not fit in the station wagon - type 120. Because it - because of the loading floor - is 'flat' in it with the cylinder head on the right-hand side. Moreover, virtually no parts are interchangeable. The gearbox - except for the flywheel housing - is the same; the cables, choke, gas and coupling are longer. If you look at the wheels, you should immediately notice that the wheel bolts are closer together, in other words, 'the pitch' is different. That also means that the brake drums and wheel hubs deviate from those mounted on the regular 500. Additional advantage of this; anchor plates, brake shoes and wheel brake cylinders are also all different. Good to know if you are busy with the restoration of a Fiat 500, because before you know it you are purchasing the wrong parts and then 'cheap' becomes very 'expensive' ... You should also try to replace the valves of a Giardiniera. Then it is most convenient to unscrew the carburetor, because then it will be easier to remove the valve cover… And then you wonder why the engine of a 'normal' Fiat 500 is called type 110? That is not entirely clear nor confirmed from the official side, but that is probably due to the wheelbase of the vehicle: 110 centimeter As you have read before, the Giardiniera has a wheelbase of 120 centimeters, 110 plus 10 ... Some things its not that hard ?!
