A number of 'general' garage owners and technical classic specialists are getting busier.

The extra run-up from customers comes from Official Garage Companies where the gentlemen are mechanics of the newer batches, the heroes of the diagnostic screens.

In practice, it appears that fairly recent to recent cars often experience malfunctions that are a little too difficult for engineers who are far from the contact point era. Problems and malfunctions that simply require knowledge, mechanical insight and experience.

And let that now be the craftsmanship and skills that 'village garage owners' and classic specialists still have in-house.

So was at a local CitroenSpecialist recently solved a problem that despite repeated resetting is not solved by the official dealer. After all, the diagnosis box does not recognize a thread partially severed by martyrdom? Certainly not when it appears that the diagnostic technician had not had the idea to look under the hood during the entire process.

  1. Dear All. Of course everything is always short through the bend in a news / facts section. But much professional knowledge has already disappeared and more is disappearing.

Peter's response is nuanced and I totally agree with him.

Funny thing is that I know two general garage owners who work at the lower end of the market. They have both employed a Polish technician for years. Poles have many generations of basic technical knowledge to keep cars running at the lowest possible cost, from which they can improvise. And yes; they can also work with diagnostic equipment.

And here in the Veluwe, a marten had taken a dead pigeon under the hood of the neighbor's car. That smelled even stronger than toilet blocks 🙂

  2. This piece is perhaps a bit short through the bend. General garages are getting busier because they charge considerably more favorable hourly rates. Moreover, you will almost be looked away at the dealer if you arrive with an older car. I really don't have to arrive at our local VAG dealer anymore. A combination of old-fashioned craftsmanship and knowledge of the latest technology is the best I think.

  3. And everything is shaved together in one go. So you just had to deal with one stupid mechanic. There are several of them in the Netherlands and they do not only work at dealer companies.
Oh yes, next time just read your own story after mister editorial because you write "ass" instead of "could"
