The Audi TT is a modern classic, especially now that the stylish and sporty 2+2 is no longer made. Over a period of 24 years, all sorts of tasty variations of the A released that make your heart beat faster. In this article we will examine some of the most exciting performances.

Audi TT Quattro Sport

We start with one of the rarest versions of the Audi TT, namely the first generation Quattro Sport. Only 1165 examples were produced, the majority of which were sold in the United Kingdom, so with the steering wheel on the right. Quattro GmbH produced only 365 left-hand drive examples and it is not clear how many of them are still on the road. They do pop up as used cars from time to time, but you have to keep an eye on the market for that.

The Quattro Sport is worth a look anyway: it's 75kg lighter than a regular TT, has no rear seats and some components have been shifted to keep weight distribution in optimum forma. It's powered by Audi's light and powerful 1,8-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which has been tuned to 240bhp. Thanks to a pair of Recaro bucket seats, you keep control of the nimble TT Quattro Sport through the bends.

Audi TT 3.2 Quattro

The original Audi TT was not only available with four-cylinder engines. In 2003, Audi introduced the 3.2 Quattro, a variant of the TT with a 250 hp VR6 petrol engine. This version of the TT is the most powerful version of the first generation. The fact that the 3.2 Quattro has so much power does not mean that it is also the sportiest version. On the contrary, those kicking horses come into their own best in straight lines.

Where the Quattro Sport can be called a sports car, the 3.2 Quattro is more of a grand tourer (GT). It is refined, smooth and luxuriously equipped. The comfort is of a high level. The 3.2 Quattro was delivered with a manual gearbox, but the version with the six-speed DSG automatic is a more suitable choice given the character of the car. Moreover, unlike the Quattro Sport, you can get the 3.2 Quattro as a coupé and a convertible (Roadster).

Audi TT RS

As you can see, there were already sporty versions of the Audi TT when the second generation made its debut in 2006. Three years after its unveiling, Audi has gone one step further by introducing a full-fledged RS version of the TT. The original TT RS has been modified in all sorts of ways to ensure a thrilling driving experience.

It's lowered, has powerful brakes, a clever Haldex four-wheel drive system with a special differential and other upgrades that sharpen the handling. The beating heart of the TT RS is a delightfully rumbling 2,5-litre five-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, good for at least 340 hp. The upgraded TT RS Plus (from 2012) even has 360 hp.
