E10 with the Belgians.

Just like in France, Belgium will replace the euro 95 by E10. This means that drivers of classic cars in particular must pay attention to the pump.

The measure will be introduced on 1 January, after which it will no longer be possible to refuel 'normal' Euro 95. The Euro 95 contains 5 percent ethanol as standard. At E10 this is 10 percent.

Euro 95 has not been available in France for years. In the meantime, Germany, after a lot of start-up problems and rumors about engine damage, has largely switched to E10. But in Germany we can still get enough 'real' gasoline.

The decision of Belgium means that drivers of classics must pay attention, because it can affect rubber hoses and gaskets in those cases. It is better to opt for more expensive 'premium' fuels, which moreover often have an octane number of 98.

According to the Antwerp Gazet, the fuel will be about one to three cents more expensive than what the Belgians are used to. In the Netherlands it is available under the name 'BlueOne95' and in that case it is (minimally) cheaper than Euro 95. However, the share on the fuel market is minimal:

In Belgium, the introduction of E10 as a standard petrol contributes to the objective of offering ten percent renewable energy in the transport sector in 2020.
