Studebaker President fire truck

Sometimes you hear special stories, stories with a rich history. Andries Bremer from Buitenpost is a plumber by profession and in his spare time he has put a lot of energy and passion into restoring an old fire truck.

His story is about nostalgia, about romance and sympathy, because after a dedication of more than 33 years at the fire department you can safely talk about it.

History

This Studebaker President fire truck was purchased as a service car by the municipality of Achtkarspelen in Friesland by the then mayor Pier Eringa. The year of construction was 1924 and the provincial registration number B 8467.

The first citizen received the car as a service car in 1933, in the later years of the war the mayor was relieved of his duties and the Germans did not claim the car because it was too small.

During the occupation, there was no mayor and it was considered a good idea to convert the car into a fire truck that kept 1947 in service in the municipality of Buitenpost. He then went to Drogeham in the same town and was able to continue his extinguishing work until 1962, after which he was sold.

Later he was found by chance at the Dommelsche beer brewery. The aim was to use the fire truck as a company fire brigade, and the technical service wanted some information about the car in advance and ended up in Achtkarspelen again.

The Studebaker (Type President) fire truck was completely recovered to its original state with the municipality's logo still on the doors. It goes without saying that every effort was made to get the car back as a picture of the history in Achtkarspelen, which luckily succeeded.

Restoration

From the 90 years on the car was worked on, it goes without saying that the missing parts were hard to find, but it was also a challenge to restore the car to its former glory ... For Andries the story still had a personal touch, his father was still on duty on the Studebaker, but unfortunately was not allowed to experience the final result of the restoration.

Andries did not do it alone, he was assisted by many firefighters with the ultimate goal of maintaining the fire truck, so that it can often be admired at events. To make that possible, a 'Studebaker Buitenpost' association was established. The restoration of the Studebaker was really a challenge, achieving something, accomplishing something gives more than satisfaction, in fact ... it has become a flaming love.
