Andreas van Zoelen cherishes Ford Escort from parental litter

Ford Escort: Mattheus passion

It will matter whether Andreas van Zoelen has spent more kilometers in the back seat or in the left front seat of his Ford Escort. The fact is that the good family car of yesteryear will never again give way. He is carefully cherished, under the watchful eye of dad on the dashboard. Nobody in the family could ever suspect that the gold lucky charm would once again make it a television star.

"Actually, I didn't want to do it," says Van Zoelen about the request to use the Ford Escort in a series of three commercials for lender Freo. “I feared that the makers of the commercials would mock it. However, after I was allowed to view the scripts in advance, I agreed. "

The owner dates from 1978 and you might assume that his diapers were still being changed in the back seat of the Escort, but that is not the case. “My father bought the car in 1991; twelve years old, so. ”Mattheus van Zoelen bought the Ford Escort in the neighborhood and son Andreas was allowed to come.

"Just not into those people when the game of negotiations started." Although no longer the youngest, the Ford Escort turned out to be a loyal family friend. You could always rely on.

“My father was in private security and regularly traveled long distances, also at night, for example to Heerlen. We also made a trip at least once a year to my mother's family in Southern Germany and sometimes to an aunt in Austria. ”

In general, the trips with the Ford Escort went smoothly, except for the one time the family broke down, along a German Autobahn. “Not only that: right in front of us, suddenly a couple of swans decided to cross the highway. The first cars were full in the anchors and before we knew it we were watching a chain collision. ”

Ford Escort broke up completely

In 1997, the Ford Escort was ready for the transition from senior to junior. "With my driver's license in my pocket, I often had access to it and that worked out well, because as a classical musician I had to drive from hot to her to give concerts."

Many years later the use was limited to recreational, such as old-timer tours, but the rust caught on and according to a judge, the Ford Escort would roll through the MOT for the last time. “That made me decide in 2010 to have it restored. He broke up completely, because new pieces of record had to be added everywhere. "

The pearl of the family has shone regularly since then at classic events and during touring rides, with dad often occupying the passenger seat until his unexpected death in 2016. “That resulted in very special moments and memories. It only strengthens my bond with the Ford Escort and that has made it invaluable to me. I want to do one more thing: make that trip to southern Germany again. "

  1. Day!

I notice that the structure of the newsletter has been radically changed. Not only do I - as a subscriber to AMK and the newsletter - always get the call to become a subscriber, but the content of the newsletter itself also seems to have become neglected.
I will look at it for a few more weeks, but am afraid that I will cancel the newsletter.

    • Dear Mr. Colijn, the content of the newsletter is still present in the same amount, actually only getting more. Because lately we often do not publish one, but two or three articles per day.

The entire newsletter, but also the things that have been added, such as the shortened link to the event calendar, are free services for you as a reader and not so much because we want to sell you something. Unlike most newsletters that trickle in the email every day.

If you are a subscriber, you can simply ignore the subscription banner, have we not made it so disturbing?
