A story about a Ford Taunus 12 M that was never restored and will appear on the road again after more than 60 years as a driving heritage. We can still appreciate the role that Ford played in the history of the Van der Werff garage company in Bolsward. Wietse van der Werff (grandfather of the current owner) became a Ford dealer on November 17, 1924. And now, generations later, Van der Werff still plays a leading role as a Ford specialist, adapted to the modern era.
100 percent original
It is almost unbelievable, but this Ford Taunus 12 M was delivered new by Van der Werff and traded in a year later. In the showroom, the beautiful gray Ford appeared to have a very special appeal to visitors. He therefore remained untouched in the role of eye-catcher for many, many years. Mileage? Less than 42.000 km. The 1,2-liter 34 hp engine is still as new!
The 50s
Ford was already able to offer various models in the mid-50s; mass motorization had begun. The car opened the way to greater prosperity and thus also contributed to the Dutch economy.
Remarkable appearance
Ford wrote at the introduction: “A remarkable appearance in the automotive world that is enthusiastically welcomed everywhere. The Ford Taunus 12M is a fast and economical car with stunning driving qualities. A particularly beautiful automobile that offers so much comfort and space that many owners of a considerably more expensive car will envy you.”
Disappeared from the street scene
They may have disappeared from the streets, but they still play a very important role in the lives of thousands of enthusiasts. The Ford Taunus 12 M (Globe) no longer needs to be brought back to life; it is ready to exchange the showroom for the outdoors. (The designers were very proud that the car was 'crowned' with the globe on the hood.) The natural beauty can make its entrance into the hobby and classic world. It gives the new owner a chance to deviate from the daily routine by taking relaxing rides. This allows him to show the beauty and elegance of this classic automobile to everyone.
Promoting the historical value
That is what we would like to see: show the beautifully designed bodies of the past and contribute to the preservation of the mobile past.
Does this model also exist in 4 doors?
I would like to hear from you.
Fri, Ruud
My father had 2 and the third was the Taunus 12m, but with a flat grille so no longer a globe. As a 12-year-old boy, he let me drive on a quiet farm road. will never forget this beautiful Ford.
How nice, I got my driver's license in such a Taunus!
A 'flat head' at that!
And then that interior, the design.
Nice to see everyone.
An overhead valve is also allowed
The Taunus 12M G13AL globe has 38 hp, its predecessor the Buckel Taunus G73A and G93A and the Ford Eifel had 34 hp. The Taunus 12M globe and 15M globe remain my favorite car. I have 2x 12M, one from 1955 and one from 1958.
