AMK reader Ernie Wijnstekers was driving an old Honda CB 450-K1 at the time because such an old Jap was the only one that fell within a student budget.
Meanwhile, a little older and wiser, he wanted his childhood love to be reborn again, certainly because he finds his three-cylinder Laverda really too fast for current traffic.
A beautifully restored Honda CB 450 K1 can still be found, but that was not what Ernie was looking for. Too beautiful. Too perfect. Too expensive.
He searched and found a technically sound basis for the rebirth of his living work K1. And he found that in the form of a classic racer that kept the E starter and the license plate.
He then ran into the fact that 'the old thing' from his studies had in the meantime really become a motorcycle about half a century old. And that the used gasoline tanks, which you used to stumble upon during every demolition, are now really less available.
So here the call: if you have a K1 tank or the tank of an early CB 250-350 - and that may be a tank where you can see that it has lived or that scrambler tank that has come out of the corner of the container - then you can send an email to Ernie ...
Oh yes: a set of used exhaust bends is also welcome
