If you lived in Hoorn in the fifties, you could certainly enjoy the mighty V8 hum of the garbage truck twice a week (?). Fueled on (super) gasoline, the Ford COE shown here (Cab Over Engine) then drove into the street and the garbage bin in the back of the bin was turned over. "Man" didn't make so much mess at the time. The 'cupboard' in front of the loading platform might contain brooms and shovels to immediately clean up any spilled garbage, because the message was clear 'Keep your street clean'. It is also possible, of course, that the garbage collectors proceeded selectively after emptying the bucket and fished out 'iron', copper or other special items and stored it in that cupboard to sell it at a later stage and therefore some extra ' wages' were added ... It was a good time ... Would the build-up of Kliko have been, NETAM perhaps? Who knows may say.
