From Thursday 16 to Sunday 19 January 2025, MECC Maastricht will once again be the familiar centre for classic car enthusiasts in the Benelux. This time with an extra festive touch, because InterClassics is celebrating its 30th anniversary. For the occasion, the organisation is presenting a special line-up, put together by the visitors themselves. Last summer, more than 4000 people voted for their favourite classics from the past three decades of InterClassics, resulting in a top selection of more than twenty exceptional cars. The Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta SWB is at the top of the list, which also managed to secure the honourable position on the official poster.

As a classic car enthusiast, you have undoubtedly been to previous InterClassics fairs. You undoubtedly remember the appealing themes. In previous editions, for example, “Dutch Grand Prix Classics” and historic Formula 1 cars; we were presented with themes such as “British Royals” or “Legends of the Autobahn”. InterClassics is praised for its varied exhibitions and pleasant atmosphere. The unique mix of pre-war classics to more modern young and supercars is always varied. Every year, InterClassics Maastricht proves to be an excellent place to network, buy, or simply enjoy all the beauty that the automotive world has to offer.

Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta SWB: crowd favourite

The 30th edition is all about the “best of the best” from the past years. In two rounds of voting, the public chose from more than 100 exclusive classics and supercars. The Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta SWB defeated formidable opponents such as the Ford GT40, Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing and the Amilcar Type C6. With 56% of the votes, the Italian thoroughbred became the crowd's favorite. That is why this icon not only features prominently in the exhibition, but also adorns the anniversary poster, drawn against the backdrop of the famous Vrijthof in Maastricht.

The line-up also features many other crowd favorites. For example, the Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ1 (1964) the show: only 112 examples of this lightweight racer were built. Louwman Museum delivers the Le Mans-winning Jaguar D-Type and an official Aston Martin DB3 works car – a machine that Peter Collins drove to 1953th place in the 16 Mille Miglia. Also an ochre yellow Ford GT40 comes to Maastricht, once used by Ecurie Belge and active at Le Mans.

Classics over modern

It is striking how the public voted en masse for classics, even though InterClassics offers more space to younger models and hypercars every year. For example, the Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder (1957) significantly more votes than a much younger Ferrara (2013-2016). Also at Aston Martin the infamous DB5 (known from James Bond) won from more modern top models like the Valkyrie and Victor. A similar pattern was seen at Porsche (911 2.7 RS defeated the more modern models) and Bugatti (Type 35 over later hypers). Many visitors clearly prefer the nostalgic charm and heritage of the older classics.

Sim Expo: Racing in a digital world

For five years in a row, InterClassics has organised the Sim Expo. When Max Verstappen and other professional drivers showed that sim racing is not far removed from the real thing, virtual motorsport got a huge boost. In Maastricht, you can attend live demonstrations and drive on various advanced simulators yourself. There is new hardware and software to see, and in the seminar you will hear about the latest trends. The organization makes it extra fun by raffling off prizes every day: every visitor has a chance to win an exclusive simulator worth € 10.000.
