Purchasing classics there

Last weekend the Flowerdome in Eelde was dominated by the International Oldtimer Fair. That the event is still popular proved by the fact that many visitors found their way to the halls on the Lagroweg.

Expectations were high in advance, as evidenced by the long line of people waiting for the three cash registers in the early morning. The entrance to the exhibition was moved by the organization, which would guarantee "a different experience" for visitors. Those interested had to travel a shorter distance to reach the spacious entrance. This ensured in any case that the flow of the enthusiastic public went well and quickly. The "other experience" should translate into what is offered on the uncovered concrete floors of the auction halls. After entering, it turned out to be a lot like old things in Drenthe. In the two central halls, the Flowerdome provided housing for a varied plume to traders, who offered their parts, miniatures, plates and - especially - stacks of books. It was a colorful group that knew itself surrounded by the necessary catering points and trade or classics on display. That layout had an old-fashioned cozy but in some respects unclear character.

Historic Racing Team Van Ginkel: one of the highlights
The spaces adjacent to the central halls of the Flowerdome housed beautiful historic fire engines, derivatives of the transport sector from bygone days and brand / model clubs. The presence of Historic Racing Team Van Ginkel was special. They livened up the fair with two formidable racing copies of the Ford Escort Mk 1, with which Jack and Dicky van Ginkel are often active in the NK GTTC. The completely self-built Mercedes Benz L 1113 truck - with which the immensely popular Fords are transported to the circuits - glorified in full glory. As far as we are concerned, one of the highlights of “Eelde”, although the Austin 2200 from Hofman Classic and Sportscars and the Borgward P100 at the Borgward Club stand also lasted. Eelde also carefully made room for the popular Barnfind theme. The visitor will undoubtedly remember the Peugeot 304 convertible, which is still to be completely restored. It was put up for sale for € 750. After the fair it became clear that he was being rescued from the tentacles of the Auto Motor Klassiek column "Verkeerd Afgelopen".

Friendly DKW stand with special motorcycle
The DKW Club Netherlands celebrated on 22 last November. Hidden among numerous providers of paraphernalia, the 40-year-old two-stroke club turned out to have a few gems with two and four wheels. The year-old DKW Club deserved a more prominent place in Eelde. The members took in any case beautiful classics to take to Drenthe. A beautiful DKW SB500 Luxus adorned the beautiful cars and moped cars, which the owner has owned for more than fifty years. He told us at the extraordinarily relaxed stand that he made his honeymoon with the beautiful two-stroke engine. Together with the recalled Ford Escorts Mk1 from Jack and Dicky van Ginkel, the black two-wheeler - for us at least - formed the deliciously tasting currants on an old-fashioned fair with a cozy character. With a composition, moreover, as witnessed by the number of visitors, it is still very popular.
