Internet and the bargains

Purchasing classics there

You won't find any bargains on the Internet. And we're not talking about Ali Express, but about the classics on the Internet from Marktplaats, all their foreign equivalents and auction houses. Because everyone who puts something for sale on the Internet first looks for price-wise… Internet.

Prices are asking prices

Depending on the condition of the object to be sold, the seller's sense of reality and a few other things, you will get an even digital price level for most classic motorcycles.
That price level can, by the way, drastically change supply and demand within a short period of time. For example, within two years we saw the average asking prices of the 'small' Guzzis go from € 1.500 to € 2.500. And two weeks ago a very nice MZ ETZ was sold for € 2.750, while in our world € 800 has already been paid nicely for such a brave two-stroke ...

It is all the issues of the day

In the current market picture, price plateau formation on Marktplaats apparently drives up prices. We do note that the prices are asking prices. And for unclear reasons, there are brands and types that suddenly get a 'boost'. On the other hand, the system ensures that entire herds of motorcycles are apparently 'worthless'. That's a lot of motorcycles from the mid to late eighties and nineties. Of course, a Yamaha Diversion 600 (1984-1991) is not the most exciting youngtimer or young oldtimer. But the small Diversions were and are enchanting, deployable motorcycles with which you can dance on winding secondary roads. And within the digital agreements you have such a machine for asking prices between € 600-750. If one is offered for € 1.500, you can assume that it is ZGAN and will be refueled and delivered with a ribbon around it.

From the internet, to the magazine world to the real world

As an old-school classic lover you are of course not blind to the blessings of the Internet. You are now also reading this free text. In addition, we would like to invite you to just add a Subscription on our monthly magazine Auto Motor Klassiek to take. That is not completely free, but it does not make much difference.

And from the magazine world to the real world it is a step that you can take just like that. And in that world it is still teeming with people who have not yet put their world view on the standard prices of Marktplaats. And it is surprising when you hear what is waiting for better times in your area. Hearing that starts with driving around on your classic as much as possible. Because if you put your classic at Aldi, Action or Appie? Then the chance that you will be addressed is considerable. And of course it is funny when that is done by an enterprising sixteen-year-old or a beautiful thirty-star who looks out of his sight, but where he often clicks is in the contact moments with seniors.

Seniors who often used to ride a motorcycle

And who occasionally have the nicest things in the shed that they no longer use. For example, we now know someone who, after his daughter was born, was no longer allowed to ride a motorcycle by his wife who wanted to save their child from a dead father. His daughter is now 48. And the ZGAN Honda CB450 has been standing next to the boiler ever since. Because: "If I were to get rid of it, then I know for sure that I will never be able to buy a motorcycle back again." We wait patiently.

While shopping I was approached by an 84-year-old ex-motorcyclist who later turned out to have a 350 Jawa 1962 cc twin in his heated shed. That bike was awarded to me for € 400. Then you talk to people who are not yet digitally brainwashed in terms of price. About people who invite you after such a conversation. And so you can get a motorcycle for a price with which the selling and buying party are more than satisfied. Nice is not it?

  1. I do want a subscription, but I live in South America then the costs will rise nicely
By the way, get the ANWB champion every month

  2. Such a Jawa 350 twin was a very nice bike, with a beautiful two-stroke howl. But there was an even nicer Jawa, the TT racer on which Frantisec Stastny rode and where our national racing hero from the 50s Drikus Veer could participate in the TT in Assen for one or two years (he normally rode on his own / less competitive Triumph). I think you will not easily encounter such a race Jawa as “barn-find”.

  3. As a retiree, drive a Yamaha XJ700S from 1985 and still like it fine locomotive has not yet run 30.000 miles, built a front row myself, just like leather side bags and a tool roll.

  4. Since the introduction of the euro and digital life ... there is a lot less human life left. I often look at Toyota's IQ machine as used. Because I have been watching it for a long time and often, I know better when it says: “Since yesterday on the net”. Usually they are for sale at professionals and I immediately say “njet”. And no matter how tempting second-hand ones may look ... try to sell something yourself for a fair price. Lying and cheating is the norm on the internet. “Auto motor klassiek”Exudes the atmosphere that I had when I was a little boy with my big brother. I am passionate about beautiful lines and the atmosphere of a motorcycle / car inside. I am not technically strong, I do not like key and I only use oil in the kitchen. But when technology & ecology go hand in hand, I am very curious. I like to listen to the tips and follow them. I really like the camaraderie among the real motorcycle enthusiasts - not at all those spoiled scooter riders who only want to hit the road with an old Vespa and then, as tradition wants it, to dry like wet wasps along the track / or soaking wet until someone comes to help them. I myself have a Sym Joyride 125 cc with a lot of space at the feet and under the butt. And a Honda Fusion, Spazio CN 250. A very nice scooter.

  5. I was indeed reading that free text, I never skip it.
But thanks to those pieces and the internet, I did take out a subscription and renewed it again.
But the irony is, I never skip that free text, but of the magazine there are still three in the plastic.
Is that the blessing or the curse of the internet?

    • And one more thing,
Placing your classic at Aldi, Action or Appie is not that smart.
Last month such a dull D66 type was lashing her offspring in the backseat, meanwhile, repeatedly, her fat ass smashing her back door into my screen.
When I expressed my displeasure about that, she looked at me as if I had made a dishonorable proposal.
It was with the Dane and fortunately not my classic but indeed a contact moment.

      • Haha Cornelius, that's a good one and unfortunately recognizable.

Can I still remember that episode of “those Ludolfs” where the youngest of the couple went shopping with his sister in the thick Audi A6 at the supermarket.
He parked it furthest from the entrance of the supermarket, there was no one else there, and he added that in case he couldn't, he always tries to park the car between other cars that preferably have a star or a propeller, they themselves are (usually) careful with their car.
Oh yes, to complete this story, when the youngest of the couple took the shopping crate out of the trunk, a blanket was first placed over the lift sill and bumper.

        Use it to your advantage.

  6. 'Asking prices' is what Jan Public likes to make of it. And some forums even make 'bidding' almost self-evident. Until now I sold motorcycles for a fixed price.
That keeps noses and other whiners more at bay. And ultimately leads to smoother sales because you as a seller do not degrade to an entertainer.

  7. The Internet works in both directions: both the seller and the buyer consult the Internet before proceeding to business. In that sense, it has all become more transparent if you look purely at the price. Quality, awarding and a story behind it is a bit more difficult to google. Example:
Autoweek classics for 2 years: 3,52 per month.
    Classic: 3.30 per month.
The best choice is obvious 😉

  8. The Jawas have become terribly expensive since they were declared a cultural heritage site in the East. We have forgotten here that Jawa was once the largest engine manufacturer in the world, with a quarter of a million cherry red twins per year. There they now apparently have the money to cherish the old workhorses.

I bought my first Jawa, then ten years old, for 600 guilders. Will not work anymore now.

  9. A Suuskoekie GSX600F from the late 80s - early 90s is also such a bike; New at the time already very pleasantly priced, nowadays for sale for the proverbial turd-and-two-marbles.
For € 300 you already have something nice, for € 500 a very nice one.
Okay..not really exciting, but unbreakable ..
