Purchasing classics there

The spring auction of Automobilia Ladenburg with traditionally thousands of beautiful lots for the collection or storage is planned for 20 and 21 May. 2860 different lots of automobilia have already been registered.

Daimler 'Standuhr'

The automobilia also includes the two Daimler Motors from a distant past. One of these, for example, is the famous 'Standuhr' from 1886. Auctioned under lot number 1562. It was the first fast-running petrol engine in the world. It was developed by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach. During the application for the patent on April 4, 1885, the motor was reminiscent of the pendulum at home, therefore 'Standuhr'. Now tell me, where can you ever buy something like this? Well, with a little luck this weekend.

The third test engine, with sniffer valve and surface carburetor, already delivered about 1 hp. The version of the 'Standuhr' reduced to 264 cc with a float carburettor developed by Maybach was put into a vehicle for the first time and powered a Daimler Motorwagen. Before that, in August 1886 the 'Standuhr' had been mounted in Daimler's boat 'Neckar'.

Trophies, racing history and special automobilia

Traditionally, a lot of racing history is also offered at this auction. This year is no different. The trophies of Hans Stuck (Austro Daimler), Alfred Neubauer (Mercedes), Adolf Rosenberger (Mercedes) and Willi Henks (AFM) will undoubtedly also attract enough interest.

Very special is the exhibitor pass signed by Gottlieb Daimler and provided with his passport photo for 'The world's Columbian Exposition Chicago', which will be auctioned under lot number 1656. The exhibition was the first opportunity for Daimler to show its working automobile in America and also the first time that the Americans were allowed to become acquainted with the automobile. There are also a few entrance tickets, stationery and a testimony of the birth hour of the automobile.

Two special lots from Formula 1 history are being auctioned. Lot number 1651 contains the crash helmet that Ayrton Senna wore during the 1986 season, including during the blistering GP weekend at Jerez. Lot number 1653 contains Michael Schumacher's crash helmet from the 1993 season.

  1. Nice article, but I think it is a patent from 1885 and not from 1985. Understandable if one writes about this in 2022, 1985 indeed seems far back, so this creates the slip of the pen.

    • So you see again, very careful that all those 1800 years would not be confused with the 1900 years. And yet another one slipped through. Thanks for the attention.
