At the introduction of the Citroën Traction Avant - where the last two words means nothing but "Front-wheel drive" - in 1936, the brush was also praised for its rack control, perhaps better known as rack and pinion. At Citroën it was announced that the TA was the first - French - car to which such control was applied. Nothing could be further from the truth. Twelve years earlier, the French car manufacturer Maurice Sizaire had this system - direction à crémaillère -, already available on the Sizaire 4 RI. Citroën could not reach an agreement with the brilliant Sizaire and never paid one cent (ime) for this invention.
