A story about a nostalgic and free feeling with the LOMAX (Citroën-cabrio): a nice eye-catcher that shows a combination of a classic look and the technology of the 2CV. For the enthusiast it is pure – real driving with a touch of addiction.

Do you know what the essence of 'open' driving is? It is the wind in your hair, listening to the sounds of nature with watery eyes and cold ears, enjoying the sun and experiencing the happy feeling of freedom.

Creative execution

Harm's LOMAX has a 602 cc power source with two cylinders and a manual gearbox. Not thirsty thanks to its light and extremely strong construction. The rolling chassis of the Citroën 2CV has produced quite a few special bodies – think of the famous Burton. The LOMAX is even rarer.

Air cooled with a warm heart

Harm: “We have owned the LOMAX for almost ten years and it will never leave the family. We have had it completely modified to our personal wishes. For example, the wheelbase has been shortened and a stabilizer has been placed on the front axle. It has also been given a complete stainless steel exhaust, a beautiful and much more convenient floor shift, and an electronic ignition. All of this makes driving even more enjoyable and personal.”

Making plans

A person makes many plans in his life, which can then take a completely different turn due to chance and circumstances.

The story behind the car

Harm: “What started as a father/son project to build a Burton, eventually ended with taking over a drivable LOMAX. It was quite a process of course. First we had to create space in the garage, then the search for a donor 'duck' began and the plans for building the Burton followed.

Halfway through, a LOMAX from the family came our way. Without regret and without hesitation, we abandoned the existing project and sold it. The LOMAX could now be used quite quickly for me and my son. Our goal remains to maintain the car together, to subtly improve it each time and thus strengthen the passion for ownership.”

Hobbies – who doesn't have them?

Every car enthusiast has his own motives to choose a certain youngtimer, classic or oldtimer. The goal of Harm and his son was clear, but the adventure took a different turn - with a great outcome.

It's a fact: some things come your way without you looking for them. And that's what makes it so much fun, right?

  1. Did you know that there was also a 4-cylinder version?
    https://www.auto-moto.link/blackattack/follies/lomax/lomax2.htm
And that it was precisely the construction of it that started it http://www.reKup.net . To find parts.
To build a Lomax 4-cylinder you needed an Ami Super chassis, as well as an Axel engine and a GS gearbox.
To find all that, we called all Citroën-garages in the 90s. Then switching to email. And finally the website, which still exists today.
The Lomax has moved to France.

  2. With the Lomax I would turn the luggage rack with the raised bracket 180° so that the suitcase does not slide straight into your neck in a head-on collision, but tilts and is launched upwards over the driver and passenger.
I read this in the Triumph magazine with explanatory drawing.

  3. The Lomax was initially also designed as a three-wheeler, and I still think that you can see that the design radiates that. The four-wheel version is therefore a bit of a failure in my opinion (although I know that many strongly disagree with that). But the whole sloping, slim, pointed rear radiates "3 wheeler". By the way, I once had a Lomax 20 223 years ago and the road holding is not inferior to the 224 version.

  4. I myself have a lomax 224 with a trunk
    From 1982
With a visa engine 652 cc
I also renovated it myself and I am happy with it and it gives you a feeling of freedom while driving, like a motorcycle
